Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 19, 2009 7:29 pm Hi All, It's been a long while since I posted anything, I have been very busy trying to deal with the fact the S#imonds couldn't get building permits to build my house without me losing 5% of the original floor plan. Really not impressed!! Finally, I'm almost there just trying to get the bank to hurry along finance approval so the building can start, but I was just wondering at what point you need to start talking to building inspectors, if anyone new a good one around the Greensborough area they could recommend, and if this is the better way to go than maybe inspecting yourself. Thanks in advance for the advice. Andrea Re: Independent Building Inspectors 2Oct 19, 2009 8:44 pm Hi, I have just had the brickwork stage completed and had independent building inspection done. he was able to do 2 reports- the frame&roof and the brickwork. He said he would have prefered to inspect the frame before the bricks were started but he was still able to see about 99% of it. Most building inspection companies have a set fee for each of the stages, but check if they charge any extra for travelling (I am just outside of the metro area so its an extra $50 on top) My council did the slab & septic and the frame, except the councils report wasn't as detailed as the inspectors!!!!All the best for your build.! Re: Independent Building Inspectors 3Oct 21, 2009 8:53 pm Hi Andrea, I'm building in the Greensborough North area also, I have spoken to big Kev www.newhomeinspections.com.au when we were buying our land - he was very helpful and we will use him although he seems really hard to get hold of! Good luck with everything! I've just found out that building on my land started last week and the only reason I found that out was because I went for a drive to see what was going on. I'm so dissapointed at the lack of communication from my builder, they're making this whole process a nightmare. And because the whole process has already been a nightmare I don't trust them to build my house to the standard they should. Thanks again, for the responses. That is a really good attitude Akin to you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. I do enjoy watching that tik tok inspector from Victoria but he does go a little… 12 81896 If you are in Victoria you have a statutory right to your own building inspector regardless of builder's consent.
