Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 25, 2007 10:34 pm Hi
We are trying to add our attachment so hope this one works. We have just purchased land and will commence building our new home in a couple of months. Any advice on modern external colour schemes that won't date would be great. We are trying to steer away from a black roof and prefer a lighter colour which has better thermal properties. The house will be built using hebel (l/level) and renderboard (upper floor). This is a pic. of the build although we are modifying the design. 300 sqm in total. What about a roof in Colorbond? Here are all the colours: http://www.bluescopesteel.com.au/index. ... DB357747A3 I think we'll be going for Windspray. I have seen a lot of houses in Surfmist that look great with slightly darker coloured walls. Re: Building our new home 4Jun 26, 2007 1:55 pm Good luck with your new home - exciting isn't it!
You're right lighter colours will perform better thermally. Even more importantly make sure that your builder puts the right insulation in and installs it correctly: http://www.sunrisehomes.net.au/asp/cont ... icleID=170 Go well! I'll show you how to keep your new home betwen 15 and 26 degrees celcius all year round - in your buget - GUARANTEED! www.sunrisehomes.net.au Re: Building our new home 5Jun 26, 2007 10:16 pm I think the colorbond roof is a good idea - possibly Shale Grey or one of the lighter colours. The front elevation is based on the Isabella from Seville Homes (small boutique builder) but we custom designed the interior to suit our lifestyle i.e. main br is on the ground floor and kids space is upstairs.
I think a lighter roof is a good idea but we are a bit attracted to some of the brighter render colours. My partner is keen on a bright red or purple but we will try and control ourselves I am starting to wonder if we have made a good decision in separating the adult/child areas in the house. The design has our 5 year old living upstairs on her own with a great bedroom/bathroom + rumpus but I think it might be a bit early to move her into her own space. Perhaps we will make up a temporary bedroom in the downstairs study until she is old enuf to want to be independent (will this ever happen!) It seemed like a great idea to separate the areas but it feels strange having her so far away from our room. Has anyone else resolved this issue i.e. spatial separation from young kids? Thank you for the feedback to date and we will keep you posted on the build as it progresses. Great forum btw. Beetle Re: Building our new home 6Jun 26, 2007 10:43 pm Nice house!!!
Very nice…… Either a light grey colorbond or tile will work. I love the colour of the exterior on the picture; do you have a problem with that? I can give you a similar colour if you want. It will not date as quickly as some! We like the render colour in the pic so would be happy if you could recommend a similar colour. I think we will go for Surfmist or Shale Grey Colorbond roof and semi commercial aluminium (grey) windows. We might go for the double glazed windows as an alternative to curtains at the rear of the house as we will have no neighbours behind us. I'm not sure about window coverings at the front - do you think wooden blinds would look a bit strange or should we just go for traditional sheers/curtains? Our bedrooms are at the front which faces south west. The house we are building is a mirror image of the pic above i.e. carport is on the right. Cheers Cheers Beetle Re: Building our new home 8Jun 27, 2007 6:19 pm Hi Beetle….
I quite like the white windows, like in the picture. I think they look good with the white eaves. But up to you. Colours to go look at. DULUX- 1) Fudge, P10.B4 2) Porcelain Figurines, P11.B4 3) Toffee Fingers, P11.B5 Just keep in mind, if you can’t find these colours in the colour chips, ask the staff to look for them in the Dulux fan deck. Most of my colours are not available on the shelf, although Dulux have released more to the public lately. Benefits of being a designer, we have our own private stash! I think the timber blinds will look nice, but if you’re a curtain person, there are some gorgeous sheer fabrics available now……to good to hang at windows! Check them out first, trust me sheers are a lot easier to keep clean then the timber blinds…..or any blind for that matter! Good luck, hope it all goes well for you! At least you can wash the sheers in the machine and hang them on the window to dry (a tip from our last curtain maker). We might also get some blockout that we can draw over the windows at night to help with thermal properties.
I will check out those colours but one of them was on the mycolour website and looked fabulous. I agree the white windows in the picture look great and they might be the best way to go. We will keep you updated on the build and thanks for the advice. Beetle Hello And Thanks for your wishes.
