Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 30, 2008 8:17 pm Hi guys
After falling in love with Austral's Newport Brick and then being told by PD I needed to chose a Boral brick I was dissapointed to say the least... I have been searching Boral's site and originally was deciding between La Mesa and Port Phillip with white mortar...i have since shown DH who has decided he doesn't like either as they appear too washed out... So back to the Boral website.... DH and I have agreed we both like the Escura smooth face range - probably a HUGE upgrade but atleast we agree Anyway we can't decide on a colour - DH like the dark chocolate type bricks, whereas I prefer a more subtle brown to easily match render, front door and garage too, we currently live in a home with chocolate bricks and I don't LOVE them... Anyway I have posted some pics of the bricks we think we could agree on and am just after some peoples opinions on which they prefer and why? Also what colours (doors, garage, render) would look good (if your feeling nice ) I prefer a gargae door and front door to match - I was leaning towards Colorbonds -Jasper We will be having white aliminium windows and white shutters on our windows....oh and white mortar! I would highly recommend that you go down to one of the Boral office's and see the sample walls. I would also highly recommend that you request some address's of houses to look at that have the bricks you are looking at. The Boral people are VERY helpful.... We had a look at a few houses and ended up choosing a brick that we thought looked crap on paper and as a single sample.. Go look at some houses, you will not believe how different they look. I definatly intend to go down to Boral and look at the chosen bricks - I also want to do some drivebys (not as ******* as it sounds) I think it will also help loking at what other ppl have chosen in regards to render colours etc to match the brick colour Re: Which brick? 4Mar 30, 2008 9:02 pm Well....... Since you asked..
We have gone with Potters Gold, Color Bond roof Woodland Grey... Woodland grey garage door. P.S. Category 6 Brick, the cost to upgrade from Catagory 1 to the highest is not a great deal. don't forget to ask. I think I have answered my own question - looking at all the bricks next to each other I think we are going to go for option B Can't think of the name of it now - off to Boral's site Cheers Re: Which brick? 6Mar 31, 2008 1:43 pm Hi,
Yes I would def check out the boral sample boards. Also ask them for a address listing of your chosen brick , that way you can view the bricks on a completed home. Best way to decide.... We have chosen the "New Maple, natural brick--from the standard range, with raked natural mortar. Note the la mesa which is a cat 6 brick will cost in excess of $3000 or more. And the white mortar at $900..... Hope this helps... Andy Re: Which brick? 7Mar 31, 2008 2:51 pm Thanks Andy
Judging by your brick selection - I'm guessing Horizon is the standard range for PD Lifestyle. I actually don't mind the look of Beaumonde and Old Golden. I might head out to Boral and see if I can get addresses of these bricks Cheers Bel Re: Which brick? 8Mar 31, 2008 3:02 pm Old golden looks great on paper and from the website but there was only 1 home built with it, and it looked too orange....
Do consider the "new maple" its a standard brick but has a great earthy colour. Jarrah is to red for my liking. Its hard with the bricks. We are rendering the front, with a light colour, whitish, should look great against the black windows. Really your options are brown, orange, red , cream...it all depends on what colour scheme you are after...We lost lots of sleep on it i can tell u... Re: Which brick? 9Mar 31, 2008 9:23 pm awallace Note the la mesa which is a cat 6 brick will cost in excess of $3000 or more. And the white mortar at $900..... Hope this helps... Andy I believe the cost in the upgrade have increase since start of the year. A Cat 6 i believe is in excess of $4000 now. We like the Boral Rattan bricks but could not justify the 3k for the upgrade and decided on the Cat 1 bricks of Brown Terrain. Cheers Re: Which brick? 10Mar 31, 2008 10:14 pm Based on the photos.. I like B.
Very nice colour. 2nd option is A. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Which brick? 15Apr 02, 2008 8:38 pm Just a tip for when you go to Boral - it's on the new freeway and it's best to approach it from the High street end - it is NOT on George street like the website says.
I was looking at Escure Velour but ended up going Prestige which is Austral. Heres some photos if this helps. It kind of shows how different they look in the flesh... I like the Cinnamon and DH likes the choc tan - I think the Smooth Face Jute (or whatever colour is in option B that I posted) is the best compromise I like the jasper colorbond and am thinking of using it for my garage and front door so will have to put it next to some bricks to see if it goes - I have a feeling my exterior is going to be very brown Thanks for the tip on the directions - when I went out to the PD Caroline Springs display centre I am sure we passed a Boral on the way, are there a few? Which do people think would be the easiest for me to get to from Melbournes West (newport) Thanks again EDIT - just saw you said they didn't have Jute - might have to give them a call to see if they have it now....also did you know what category the smooth face bricks are? Re: Which brick? 17Apr 02, 2008 8:47 pm haywgl Which do people think would be the easiest for me to get to from Melbournes West (newport) Thanks again Thomastown would be my bet. I believe the one in Caroline Springs is no longer open. Best to call Boral bricks directly. Cheers Re: Which brick? 19Apr 02, 2008 10:16 pm oh yeah - sorry I was talking about the Wantirna South one - which is deifinitely not the one you'd be going to..
No idea about the category but to give an idea on price my bricks are Category 4 from Austral and they were an extra $1800 on a 29 sq house.. Re: Which brick? 20Oct 17, 2009 11:42 pm The photos of the bricks have helped sooo much. Thank you! I am still in a brick dilemma though....lol....not sure what the colour scheme will be yet but hoping to stick with the smooth face. Thanks again.
