Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 16, 2009 3:58 pm Hi everyone, Well, despite being a Member on here for *cough cough* 5 months now, I still haven't gotten around to creating my own thread. So today, I thought it was high and mighty time to have my own building thread on here and to stop hijacking everyone elses threads! My OH and I have bought ourselves a nice little block in Vertu Estate, Harrisdale, an Estate that we just fell totally in love with the minute we drove through. The block is a little under 600sqm, so once the house is built we should have enough of a backyard to entertain and keep the dog happy! We are currently waiting on unconditional approval from the bank, but with settlement due on the land yesterday (!) we are keeping everything crossed that this comes through soon! We have Pre-Start booked for next Wednesday 21 October.... AND I CAN'T WAIT!!! This has to be my favourite part of the building process so far, choosing all the colours and matching with taps go with which tiles and which benchtop compliments which handles.. etc etc. I know you know what I mean! Here is our floor plan. I'll post our colours and stuff once we have done Pre-Start and confirmed them all. We are building the "Domain" by New Generation Homes, who are part of the Summit Homes Group. Re: McBecks McBuild in Harrisdale, WA - FINALLY my own thread!!! 2Oct 16, 2009 4:06 pm Nice looking plan you've got there!! My only question is (and i only ask this cause i'm a really really lazy person and it would bother me... ), your garage access door opens into the hallway, and then you've got around and basically do a big loop just to get to the kitchen? (thinking of when bringing in the billion bags of shopping!!!) Can't wait to see your colour selections Where is Harrisdale? I'm too lazy to google at the moment... viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: McBecks McBuild in Harrisdale, WA - FINALLY my own thread!!! 3Oct 16, 2009 4:24 pm Thanks Jodie! Hehe I Can see where you're coming from with the garage door access and the kitchen, but its not actually that far to go and I can just pop the bags over the counter onto the bench so no need to loop all the way around really, just stop in the doorway and chuck! Plus, I guess I've never really been a fan of the access door into the kitchen... not sure why, but I don't like the idea of people running in and out the kitchen to get outside. Probably just a *me* thing... most people will use the front door obviously. Harrisdale a fairly new suburb is just behind Canning Vale, south of the City. Re: McBecks McBuild in Harrisdale, WA - FINALLY my own thread!!! 4Oct 16, 2009 4:42 pm I knew it sounded familiar I agree with you tho, i'm not a big fan of the garage door opening into the kitchen... but that seems to be the way a lot of homes are built!! Except for mine... i don't get a door into the garage *sigh* I actually have to walk around to the back sliding door!! But thats only cause i moved it hehehehe viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: McBecks McBuild in Harrisdale, WA - FINALLY my own thread!!! 5Oct 16, 2009 6:53 pm Nice plan! I moved my entry forward so I could have the garage opening into the hallway. Mine is nowhere near the kitchen either, but the main issue for me wasn't shopping bags, but the fact that I wouldn't have to go outside again to get into the house. It's nice and safe when I come home late at night by myself! My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! Re: McBecks McBuild in Harrisdale, WA - FINALLY my own thread!!! 6Oct 16, 2009 8:02 pm Yay Bec has a thread! Maybe I'll see you on Weds Are you going to put a door thru to outside in the garage? I'm another who would rather not have a door into my kitchen, and lucky our new home doesn't. Our rental does and it sh1ts me to tears that people walk through it ALL the time when i'm cooking Hope you bank pulls their finger out soon and stop being so anal! Whilst I do love this choosing the colours time etc, I really can't wait to be up to where you guys all are and have a site start scheduled, or a slab or walls... or a roof! We're off to Ossy Park this morning to finalise all our choices. The only things we haven't really settled on yet are the tapware, we know what type of taps we really love, but its just getting them best ones for the lowest price! Also gotta go confirm render colour. Wish us luck! Then, cos its going to be a glorious 35 degrees today its, hello beach, here we come! I just organised our Synergy and Alinta Gas account numbers and that was the very last thing we had to to on our Pre-Start "To Do" list... so, for now at least, we are quite organised! Well, I mean, we think we are anyway... goodness knows we may get there and have only organised half of the things we were supposed to! Candylea- sorry forgot to reply to your question - yep we will be havin access through the garage to the back yard, a door in the corner, but it just wasn't on this plan. Ladsos- thanks so much and yep doors to the WIR's (we think), but no doors to the home theatre, just cos we're not really "home theatre" types, so its going to be more of a music/sitting/reading room. I want it really light and airy. Right, I'm off to update myself of everyone else's build now! McBecks "Too much of anything is bad, but too much Champagne is just right." Re: McBecks McBuild in Harrisdale, WA - FINALLY my own thread!!! 17Oct 19, 2009 4:26 pm Yep still waiting on settlement for the land.... Grrr. It was due last Thursday and the developers don't think they can grant another extension, so we're on borrowed time as it is! We're just waiting for the bank to admit they've made a mistake when interpreting the wording on the contract and to grant us the unconditional approval. Ugh... PLEASE BANK PLEASE!!!! I find it's best not to think about it... *plugs fingers into ears* La, la, la... staying in happy Pina Colada land! McBecks "Too much of anything is bad, but too much Champagne is just right."
