Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 14, 2009 10:06 am I thought I'd make a thread updating progress of our house. We settled about 15 days ago and yesterday the slab went down! I can't believe how quickly it's happened. I took the morning off work and watched the slab go down, the grano workers were great and even explained some of the things they were doing for me. I took photos through the whole process, they're all on our blog with explanations. I recommend watching it go down if you're able to, it's quite interesting. Here's our blog if you want to see the photos: http://justinandashlyshouse.blogspot.com/ Next update will probably be either when we choose our bricks or the excess dirt around the slab is cleared. I didn't really think about how the concrete would get to the slab... and now I'm excited that I'm going to have my very own set of cement trucks! I would love to see it all happening, but unfortunately I don't have a job with flexible hours It's a great idea to number the days too - it puts it all into perspective Looking forward to seeing more! Re: Building in South Guildford WA with RedInk 4Nov 02, 2009 12:35 am It's been a while since I posted an update on here so I thought I should. We picked our bricks and they were delivered, on the same day the dirt was cleared around the slab and something drove on the slab in a bad spot and cracked the corner all the way through. The corner has since been cut off and will be re-poured this coming week but the brickies have started in the mean time, staying away from that corner and we have about half the external walls started and they've only been at it 2 days. That's about where we're at atm, but there is more detail and lots of pics on our blog, we've had all very positive feedback on our bricks so far, let me know what you think. At this rate the walls will be finished before the end of next week. Can anyone tell me why they do 4 courses of single bricks at the top of the internal walls? We have friends that are building down the street from us and theirs is the same but I can't work out why. Will have to check tomorrow. How exciting!!! Another week of bricking left? Its amazing watching each room take shape, i'm loving seeing it all happen! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Building in South Guildford WA with RedInk 8Nov 09, 2009 9:46 pm Well, it's been just over a week and I'm pretty sure the brick work will be finished tomorrow. There's hardly anything left to do. I wonder how long it's going to take before the roof starts. We're going to have to organise a 3rd party inspector to come and check everything out soon, everything is just happening so fast. He was really, good, explained a lot of things to me. For example, those four single course bricks are for strength, sometimes they put a course of them along the bottom of the wall as well, just depends on the builder. The roof is getting close to being completed now, but we're having second thoughts about our choice of colours for the gabels, I'll have to post a thread in the interior decorating section about it, but if you read the blog and have an opinion, please let me know, all input is welcome.
