Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 13, 2009 11:13 am Hi, In just over an hour, I plan on going to our newly laid slab to imprint my dogs paws. Silly question - but does anyone know the best way of doing it? One dog is well behaved and will let me hold her paws, the other one hates his paws being touched. My current house is also about 8 minute drive from slab, so what is the best thing to clean their paws with until I can give them a proper bath? I've read online that vinegar is good - any thoughts on how this would react with dogs paws? I also read putting petroleum jelly on paws prior to printing is helpful - would this make it easier to clean afterwards? Or am I just being silly worrying about it - just press in, come home, wash off and no worries? Thoughts and ideas greatly appreciated. To do 1pm today 2Oct 13, 2009 11:20 am Hi, no ideas on cleaning/safety for you rpets, but I would get over there quick in case the concrete sets faster than you expect. I was going to put our Rocky's paw print in our new path and it was SOLID in no time. So we missed out Re: Paw Prints in Cement Has anyone tried this? To do 1pm today 3Oct 13, 2009 11:24 am I would just take a wet face washer or some baby wipes. You could also put on a pair of kids or babies socks on the dogs paws until you get home. Be sure to take some pics Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, and professionals built the Titanic." I was going to put our Rocky's paw print in our new path and it was SOLID in no time Went there at 10:45 and they haven't yet poured the garage - they are still filling all the REALLY deep trenches. The contractor told me about 12:30pm at 7 o'clock this morning. Going by what I saw, 1pm should be about right. Hels I would just take a wet face washer Hels You could also put on a pair of kids or babies socks on the dogs paws until you get home. Both fantastic ideas I hadn't thought of, but will definitely use! Will take photos for sure and update later. Thank you Thank you Thank you! To do 1pm today 5Oct 13, 2009 11:39 am My dog hates her paws being held too, she thinks I'm going to cut her nails all the time good luck with it though, maybe a water bottle and a cup to dip each paw in, it could get stuck in between the pads maybe blindfold the dog and grab a paw right at the last minute and shove it in Re: Paw Prints in Cement Has anyone tried this? To do 1pm today 7Oct 13, 2009 11:51 am SuH maybe blindfold the dog and grab a paw right at the last minute and shove it in Sounds like a plan - if only I could get him to put a blindfold on in the first place hehe.. Have just filled a water bottle with warm water so I can clean their feet afterwards with a face washer. Hels Oh, and also take a screwdriver for if you want to inscribe something And I have just packed a cake skewer, plus 2 towels for the car trip home. Feels like I'm taking them on a camping holiday. Poor little things. They will love the car trip though and the fact it seems like they are going for a 'WALK'. Oh, I'm so excited! To do 1pm today 8Oct 13, 2009 12:00 pm Oh and now it buckets down with rain!!!. It's 12:30 here now. Don't know how we would do paw printing in this weather. Hopefully the worst of it is over in about half hour. The dogs will hate going out in this weather. They will come home looking like rats (after just having a groom on the weekend too - Molly still even has her ribbon in her hair, which would have looked really cute in a photo) Oh well, what will be will be. Whatever happens it will be memories in the making hehe.. The contractors were hard at work (and covered in concrete) so I didn't want to interupt them either. The rain stopped just for us too! P.S. For future reference for anyone else, don't forget to take a spare pair of shoes to drive home in. I wore old shoes knowing they would get muddy, but forgot about the driving home part. Ooops! P.P.S. The face washer with bottle of water did the trick (as well as having old towels down in the car) until we got home for a proper paw clean. Thanks for all the advice earlier. They are so cute!! I think you did very well doing that on your own It looks great and as i said a lovely idea. I dont think my cats and dog would co-operate though Re: Paw Prints in Cement - Photos 13/10 13Oct 13, 2009 4:56 pm Great to see there was a good outcome Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Trust me I had my fair share bit of mud and concrete splatter on me after that as my main concern was getting the concrete off their paws as quickly as possible. Was fun to do though and it will be 'cemented' in history for ever hehe... I love the paw prints!! I took a sharp knife with me hoping to write something in but the cement was quite hard!! Must have laid it early we didn't get there til after 5 and thought if i try hard to dig into it i might do some damage. So now I will wait for the patio areas to be done. Good luck with your build. I'll keep checking your thread..it will be interesting to see a house go up that has started the same day as us. VERY cute dogs! Re: Paw Prints in Cement - Photos 13/10 19Oct 14, 2009 5:19 pm SuH how cute are they, well done almost Thanks SuH. The slab is now complete. So we are really happy. Already have an update that the timber should be delivered by the end of the week. Now I really wasn't expecting that. Yes we love our little pups. (Yes they are almost 7 years old, but always seem small and get called our puppies). lisanne That's why you need to get some gumboots and keep them in a plastic bag Yes I kind of realised this later. Wish I had your advice before hand hehe.. The shoes I was wearing are trashed now and have made their way into a plastic bag for future trips. But yes, gum boots may be more appropriate to save a heap of washing after getting muddy pants too. kec2712 Our slab was laid today too Where are you building? Do you have a thread or blog that I can follow? It would be great to compare? gurlistar Our golden boy will be with us when we get our slab - hopefully we can get his prints too! I think the globby bits make it cute Just remember to get there around the middle of day. After work - 4 to 5pm seems like it is too late for other people that have tried then -the concrete is set too hard. When I got there at 5:45, all the workers were walking all over it (with no marks at all being left). I'm glad you don't mind the globby bits. I feel like I have to explain it when I show friends the photo Thanks to you all for your comments about our gorgeous dogs. Yes we love them so much. Even the contractors 'aahhed' at them. Quite funny to see a couple burly blokes go all soft at the knees. Max is very photogenic too, and we have HEAPS of photos that make it seem like he is actually smiling at you.
