Can't help re the big M but we're building with Masterton and ours was $1500 + gst for a 2 storey house, an additional $200 for the vac pan. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=6609&hilit=ducted+vacuum Cheers Never argue with an idiot they drag you down to their level & then beat you with experience - Dilbert View Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=19733 Contract signed 14Sept Slab 30Sept Bricks laid 1Dec Lock up 26Feb Keys 10Jun Re: Ducted vacumm 3Oct 09, 2009 4:39 pm Opinions differ but for less money I'm getting a Roomba rather than a ducted vacuum http://www.roomba.com.au/ Trying this building gig one more time. Re: Ducted vacumm 4Oct 09, 2009 5:03 pm We are not sure whether to get a ducted vacuum system or not. We have a dog and cat who are inside pets and every time we vacuum, all you can smell is the dog and cat right through the house and the smell lingers for an hour or so, no matter how clean the animals are. We were thinking that with a ducted vacuum that the whole house would permanently smell of our pets...does anyone with ducted vacuum have inside pets? Re: Ducted vacumm 5Oct 09, 2009 10:18 pm The smell for the pets probably comes from the air vent that is on a normal vacuum. When it sucks up it expels the air (and often abit of the finer dust too) out of the air vent. The beauty of the ducted is that they unit is usually in the garage so any air ends up out there no in the house. We have been in our place for a few weeks now and just love the ducted system. Our custom build with Rossdale http://hazehome.blogspot.com/ https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17630 Re: Ducted vacumm 6Oct 09, 2009 10:21 pm Jodge, a normal vac with a HEPA filter will stop the smell going back in to the air. We have 3 big dogs and 2 cats and after I vac with the Dyson it doesn't smell of the animals.... well no more than it does normally. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Ducted vacumm 7Oct 09, 2009 10:26 pm We have ducted vacuuming, we also have two inside dogs and for me it makes a big difference. My dogs are clean, but I hate the smell of the recycled air from a normal vacuum. I will definately be getting a ducted vacuum in our new house. We were thinking that with a ducted vacuum that the whole house would permanently smell of our pets...does anyone with ducted vacuum have inside pets? we are (temporarily) in a 2 storey place with ducted vacuum - with 3 x inside (all day) dogs ! the unit for the vac sits in the garage so there are never any smells in the house. It doesnt have any special filters that I know of. Just a standard Vacuumaid ducted system Im pretty sure Re: Ducted vacumm 11Oct 12, 2009 4:18 pm We upgraded from the standard to avoid the very noisy standard model. $1894 We added a vacuum dustpan in the kitchen $260 We upgraded to the deluxe hose kit $223 (That was much more than the cost of the upgrade from the supplier, we understand) Since then, because the upgraded model price was based on 5 outlets in the house and we only need 3, we are being refunded $400 Total cost is $1977, but we have a unit that is much quieter and one that I'm sure the children will fight over to use - every day! Pfiff Finally making progress again, with a clothesline (yippee) and some much needed little things being attended to over the holidays. 40 C on New Year's eve? We love our a/c! Re: Ducted vacumm 12Oct 12, 2009 9:05 pm Thanks heaps guys. Just one more thing, someone advised me against getting ducted vacuum due to high maintenance costs...is this true? We were looking at a Silentmaster with 6 year warranty and free service after first three years. Besides replacing the bags (if we go with that model) what other costs are involved in maintenance?
