The cost of the labour to remove the additional lights...+ the cost to plaster & paint the holes doesn't make it cost effective for them.
We had the same issue with some other things in our house. It simply wasn't worth their time to fix. Re: should i tell them? should i???? 22Jul 07, 2007 8:02 pm Just reviving a semi-old thread. intoxicated, what ever happened to your situation?
Okay, now my turn. We just went to see the house today and discovered they started laying the floor tiles. BUT they also laid it in the rumpus room which is supposed to be carpet. Originally we wanted to have it as tiles but we removved it as it would've cost us an extra 2.5k. And since they put tiles in the rumpus we're assuming that they're still working off the old floorplan. Now, neither of us are particularly fussed about having tiles in the rumpus room. It loooks good and the tiles from the adjoining rooms are carried through so there's no sudden stop in the lines. And we can always put a big rug in there to soften it up. Can anyone think of any disadvantages to having tiles in a rumpus/theatre/miscellanous/whatever room? We (or at least me and the better part of my conscience) are planning to tell them. But maybe not until PC inspection. Or first thing Monday morning. Whichever I cave into first. Re: should i tell them? should i???? 24Jul 08, 2007 10:30 pm Coming in on the tail end of this one.
I would advise telling them, they absolutely willnot take them out, as they shall then need to patch and repaint the ceiling which is quite difficult when all of the light fittings are installed. All they will want is a variation signed. Ensure that it is at no cost to you. Best to sign it as they are then included in the builders warranty which ensures that you are then covered. Cheers. Re: should i tell them? should i???? 25Jul 09, 2007 3:44 pm YSSIM - I guess having tiles in a theatre room wouldn't be ideal?? Matt could answer that better i guess (I'm sure there are some acoustic reasons not to have them).
But if it's more a general chill out room, rather than dedicated theatre room, don't see why the tiles couldn't stay!! Re: should i tell them? should i???? 26Jul 09, 2007 3:48 pm Two things to add.
PD built our house with 8foot six inch ceilings(it should have been 8'),that's about a $2500+ upgrade. They picked it up early on and advised us that if we were not happy with it then they would renovate. However if we wanted to keep it as it was then it was ours for free . Now as far as tiles in home theatre/rumpus...I would have thought that the acoustics would be better with carpet rather than tile.Echo Echo Echo Re: should i tell them? should i???? 27Jul 09, 2007 4:25 pm So it seems the thing to do is to add in a bunch of expensive variations, keep them in as long as possible and then remove them without much fuss. Then keep fingers crossed.
Wish I had done that. Re: should i tell them? should i???? 28Jul 09, 2007 4:34 pm Amber YSSIM - I guess having tiles in a theatre room wouldn't be ideal?? But if it's more a general chill out room, rather than dedicated theatre room, don't see why the tiles couldn't stay!! Spot On Amber!! Tiles = Sound reflection.... The room will tend towards a tinny sound. However this can be overcome (to a degree) with extra furnishings like couch placement and heavy drapes etc... Oh and a really big heavy rug... Re: should i tell them? should i???? 30Jul 09, 2007 6:31 pm Thanks for the replies guys. And yes, I had thought about the same thing as you have all mentioned. I should then mention that this room is not a dedicated theatre room but a multi-purpose room instead as Amber said.
I'll let you all know what happens after we have the PC inspection. [sneakersss] wondering anyone built with omaxe homes and care to share their experiences. thanks 0 8247 Hi everyone.
