Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Garage Beam or Brickwork 6Oct 07, 2009 4:06 pm joles Bricks for sure. We were lucky that it was standard with our builder, but we would have upgraded in a heartbeat if it wasn't. Bricks over garage and over windows make the house look far more finished IMO. Yep definitely agree with u there Joles! personally bicks give a far more complete look to the house though an expensive upgrade if not standard! Re: Garage Beam or Brickwork 7Oct 07, 2009 4:30 pm I agree with Joles too, definitely worth upgrading if possible (unless brick is included as standard of course). Above the garage can be straight, arches are not the fashion at the monent anyway. They use metal lintels to support the bricks and this gets painted. There shouldn't be any problems with cracking. Re: Garage Beam or Brickwork 10Oct 12, 2009 5:18 pm It was about $1,500 for us to do it as well I do somewhat wish we did but in the end we kept the infill. I do believe that it is possible to render over the Infill at future point in time, using a foam based solution - but I am not 100% sure on that. Re: Garage Beam or Brickwork 11Oct 12, 2009 6:25 pm oze Turns out it's about $1500. At this stage that needs to be spent elsewhere. Oh well. Same story here but it isnt the end of the world!! Drive around and look at the new estates, colour selection of the panel is very important as to how the final facade looks IMO. As Zero has said, render (or paint the same colour as adjoining render) and it will blend. I have seen houses where the infill fits in really well due to the other materials used on the facade. Have also seen people use decking over it which looked really good as it tied in well with the rest of the front landscaping. That seems like a lot of money just for brick infill above the garage! These builders sure do know how to rip people off Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Re: Garage Beam or Brickwork 13Oct 12, 2009 7:31 pm Brick is in fashion now.. but I think you should go with whatever you like personally. If you go with wood though I would put some wood elsewhere so it doesn't look out of place, like you just forgot to put the bricks there Metricon Riva 33 - http://herlihy-riva.blogspot.com Site start 15/03/2010 - Handover 23/12/2010 9 months and 8 days (284 calendar days) from site start to handover Re: Garage Beam or Brickwork 14Oct 13, 2009 12:00 pm Sure is a rip off!! I really like brick. We've chosen not to have any render on our facade as we love the look of brick. The garage door is Monument and were told the panel above it would be too. I guess we can always see what it looks like and change it (colour) later. Our bricks are Brushwood. Hope it works out okay. Kinda nervous when it's your first time..haha. Life is; then you tell yourself a story. Re: Garage Beam or Brickwork 15Oct 22, 2009 8:43 am After spending the weekend checking out houses in a few estates we decided that we wanted the brickwork. I agree that it looks more finished and part of the house. It's about $1400 and is a lot but we do prefer it so it's money well spent. Will also make any rendering we do to the portico down the track look better. Life is; then you tell yourself a story.
