Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 06, 2009 6:28 pm Hi everyone! Painters are starting in the next couple of days and we need to confirm our exterior colours! We're thinking of going with a Dulux colour called 'Bilby' which is a fair bit away from what we were originally thinking, but now think it might make a real impact, especially since most houses around us are fairly bland/monochromatic. Our other main colours are: Roof/gutters/fascia: Colorbond Ironstone Windows: Western Red Cedar Feature walls: natural bluestone Eaves: Dulux Bilby Dbl strength (TBC) I've tried to attach a couple of images, one of our front elevation and the other of the colour...any thoughts or comments would be really appreciated! We basically have to decide straight away, so hope we're not making a big mistake! You might want to consider a touch of red render to compliment somwhere. Lovely, go for it. Re: Anyone heard of Dulux 'Bilby' and have any thoughts? 4Oct 06, 2009 10:33 pm Thanks heaps guys! I was a little worried it might be too dark, but it's definitely growing on me...and definitely has that little bit of 'aubergine' or something through it that really gives it some interest, rather than a standard 'grey' look! We're planning on making the two columns at the front a feature an using a different type of paint..maybe even a sort of "metal" effect paint, slightly darker, to accentuate the whole look! I'll post some photos when I get a chance!! Re: Anyone heard of Dulux 'Bilby' and have any thoughts? 5Oct 07, 2009 6:36 pm Hi, we have used the Rameau color that is very similar to your choice. When we first saw it on our house it was quite striking and I wasn't sure if it was a too strong a color but after seeing it every day since it really grows on you. We are planning to have a front fence with the posts rendered in the same colors and some plants in similar tones-I think it will look great! Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply again. I had a chat with the builder, he said he will use primer, then hydrotec which comes with colour and sealer as well.
