The Coral home next door went up so fast, amazingly fast We started to build 10 days before Jess09.... have reached frame stage. We wont be in before Christmas, unless there is a Christmas miracle buzz
Jess, by the looks of it you'll be in by next week. BTW roof looks spectacular (sorryOT) Re: Am I dreaming if i want to be finished by Christmas...? 4Oct 04, 2009 8:12 pm MarkoL Hi everyone - our roof tiles were finished last week. Am I dreaming if i want my house finished by Christmas? my builder says maybe... but i want a definately!! how big is it? 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' I'd be completely dreaming if i thought i'd be in by xmas, considering i don't even have a slab yet viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Am I dreaming if i want to be finished by Christmas...? 6Oct 04, 2009 8:15 pm Hi, I am building out on the Adelaide plains. My house has just finished the brickwork stage and all the subbies so far have said that the building industry here in SA is extremely slow so when any jobs come through they can start just about straight away. The way my 'house' has progressed in the last 4 weeks it looks tho it should be well&truly done by christmas.BUT.... I have been warned that most houses are built flat out til about lock-up then there seems to be a lull where nothing happens for ages. Where abouts are you building? Re: Am I dreaming if i want to be finished by Christmas...? 7Oct 04, 2009 8:22 pm oops - I prob should've added some more details. Our house is not overly big... a touch over 20 squares... but twice the size of what we are in now so that will be nice that we won't be falling over ourselves around the house anymore. We are building in the ACT... our builder seems pretty good. He seems to have a lot of work on so sometimes I feel like we might fall behind because he just has way too much on. Our site cut was way back in June and then because it rained like buggery our slab was delayed until August. But its only taken about 8 weeks to get to having the roof completed. we only just put our current house of the market with settlement for 31 January... so that is our absolute deadline, Re: Am I dreaming if i want to be finished by Christmas...? 8Oct 04, 2009 8:33 pm To be completly honest...Who knows! We are asking the same question... We are building a 40sqr home in total and are on day 88 and can't be sure that we will be in by christmas. The builder says they will be finsihed by the end of November, they have been quickish so far but unless they pull their fingers out of their you know what, then I somehow don't think it's going to happen. We are fully framed, wrapped, plastered, cabintery is all in etc etc (check out thread for more info) Would be nice to be in by christmas, but if not, so be it! Building Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13002 Site start: 8th July 2009 Handover: 11/12/2009! 5 months total build time. 40 sqs of luxuary...Bliss! Re: Am I dreaming if i want to be finished by Christmas...? 9Oct 04, 2009 9:05 pm Our slab was poured on 11th May and we have a date of mid November but it's a bit stop and start, the 2nd fix chippies finished on Wednesday but before they arrived nothing happened for ages, we met the tiler and apparently he will be back to start next Wed/Thursday he says he is slow but the best and he will take 2 weeks to tile 2 bathrooms and a laundry, we don't think mid November is realistic but our SS says it should be! Re: Am I dreaming if i want to be finished by Christmas...? 10Oct 04, 2009 10:24 pm My house 285m2 took 18 weeks from the very start of earthworks to the PCI (which is tomorrow) Then up to two more weeks before handover. The completed house will not include floor coverings to bedrooms and living areas. *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 Re: Am I dreaming if i want to be finished by Christmas...? 11Oct 04, 2009 10:33 pm Our place is due for completion this week. From roof tiles to now has been 11 weeks. We have had a very quick build so I'd be saying maybe 50/50 for you as even if it goes quick that puts you around 3rd week of December. You never know, but keep in mind that many trades finish earlier in December that other industries. Best of luck. I hate having no control over what is happening or when or who or how... whoever said building was fun was definately the dreamer Re: Am I dreaming if i want to be finished by Christmas...? 13Oct 05, 2009 9:29 am I'm very sure we will be in bout the end of November/early dec.. as our builder has done a number of homes in our estate in 8 weeks - from site scrape to finish - not including stuffing around with handover etc. We are currently getting plastered and brickies start either this arvo or tomorrow. Not a day has gone by without something being done on our place. Often we go past and there are different teams of tradies all in there doing different things. This Friday will be exactly 4 weeks since site scrape. But we werent promised we'd be in before xmas... all the tradies work and our builder stays open.. but were warned that many of the suppliers shut up early in December and are closed for about 4 weeks. So we are in a mad rush to organise fences and grass etc before handover to make sure we are "finished" before xmas. good luck ! and fingers crossed for all of us ! Nothing like cutting it fine to make it exciting !! Re: Am I dreaming if i want to be finished by Christmas...? 14Oct 05, 2009 9:38 am My roof was covered the start of July, which was 3 months ago, and I am still not in, so I doubt you will be in before xmas. Good luck with it though. Quote: all the tradies work no so sure about that one. i am pretty sure most of them would take xmas holidays. Re: Am I dreaming if i want to be finished by Christmas...? 16Oct 05, 2009 6:52 pm I was hoping to be in by christmas but wont move till grass and fence have been finished so i doubt we will be in intime 30sq house roof finished last week. Re: Am I dreaming if i want to be finished by Christmas...? 17Oct 05, 2009 7:52 pm milly_monster I was hoping to be in by christmas but wont move till grass and fence have been finished so i doubt we will be in intime 30sq house roof finished last week. sheesh - not even close if you're builder works at mine's rate... Re: Am I dreaming if i want to be finished by Christmas...? 18Oct 05, 2009 8:06 pm I dont have any complaints yet with the builder as yet its day 43 today from start of footings the council inpector was there this morning doing the frame inspection so we should be set to move on soon Re: Am I dreaming if i want to be finished by Christmas...? 19Oct 05, 2009 8:17 pm my point was not that they dont take hols.. just that they (well the ones our builder uses) work much closer up till xmas.. but they are held back because suppliers shut earlier. Guess it just depends on the tradies.. what their work level is like and how much incentive they have to work ! Re: Am I dreaming if i want to be finished by Christmas...? 20Oct 05, 2009 8:24 pm i guess every builder is different... here's hoping mine keeps up the pace. i just don't want to hassle him all the time in case it gives him the sh*ts. sometimes i feel like i am calling him about something every couple of days...
