Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 23, 2007 7:12 pm Well I finally put it all together. I bought the piece of land 6 years ago, and since then have been saving and looking for the best way to make my dream home reality.
2 years ago I decided that I would take the leap and build it myself (and the help of friends) to avoid the insane market prices. No cutting corners, no shotty contractors, and a controlled budget. So I have read hundreds of books on the subject, and am always looking for more information and ideas. My current guide to building my home is "Unwrapping: Hook & Build Building System." If any of you have also read this book, or complete a project or your dream home using this system, I would definitely like to hear from you. Not only is my home going to be high quality and put up in minimal time, it will also be affordable and customized. All the best and happy home building. Love to hear more about this system. Took me a couple of minutes to find via google, so in case others are interested, see: http://web.mac.com/wwilbert1/iWeb/6FBCB97B-CBEF-4421-9C1F-12F9419C0272/6D8596D6-0D57-4618-A7AB-98E395C8CD41.html e. Re: Building my Dream Home 4Jun 25, 2007 11:06 pm Cool! Would you mind provide a bit more information? Didn't know this is available in Australia. From the web site it looks like something in the Canada/US or something.

I am not sure if there are any existing projects in Australia, but I know that I am the only one in Aspen. I read quite a few postings on homeone, and wanted to hear from anyone familiar with the system. The shop drawings are being sent to a local lubber manufacture and the pieces are all pre-cut before they even reach my lot, so no surprises. They say it will be like putting an easy puzzle together and watching it unfold in one day. I don't see why the same couldn't be done in Australia. As for Cookie Monster's comment, I think I did a bad job trying to sell the book considering Elizabeth was the one kind enough to provide the wesite. But specially for you Cookie Monster, I have included the website for buying the book if you are interested. http://www.trafford.com/4dcgi/view-item ... 9-26490aaa Thanks again. Re: Building my Dream Home 7Jun 30, 2007 7:17 pm I’ve seen similar process’s on Grand Designs on Austar.
