Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 16, 2009 10:56 pm Hi We're in the process of building this house but are having second thoughts about our colour choice... http://www.renditionhomes.com.au/oxford_images.htm The front is to be entirely rendered with simple bands around the windows and garage and straight quoins on the corners of the front of the house. So same style as this house but without the brickwork and fancy decorative detail. We've chosen Woodland Grey for the roof and gutters, Paperbark for the garage door, fascias and downpipes, and the render and verandah posts are to be painted Paperbark. The bands and quoins are to be painted half strength Paperbark. The house won't have the finials, etc as displayed - very basic at this stage. Eventually we'd like to add decorative brackets to the verandah posts. BUT... should we paint the verandah posts in half strength Paperbark? It might look odd as the fascias are full strength Paperbark? Like they don't flow? But then if they're Paperbark they might just blend in with the whole facade and look just plain boring. Then we look at that Surfmist roof and wonder whether we should've gone for that instead of Woodland Grey - !!! Maybe it's last minute nerves but any thoughts would be much appreciated. Re: What colour roof/gutter/fascia + render for this house? 2Oct 17, 2009 8:18 am Hi, I am building and have just had the brickwork completed, so my 'house' actually looks like a house. I have woodland grey roof & windows. Its weird because one day the roof looks quite dark and the next day it looks light, but overall it looks lighter then what i thought it would. I find that I get used to looking at my house as it is and the colour scheme i chose is just 'there'. It doesn't bother me too much in the end because I dont tend to stand out the front gawking at my house for long periods of time. But I'm starting to fret a bit about the interior cos thats where most of my living will be,besides out the back with my horse, of course! Re: What colour roof/gutter/fascia + render for this house? 3Oct 17, 2009 5:04 pm Hi, Our house is nearly at lock up. We have Austral Newport Bricks, Woodlands Grey Roof, gutters and garage door, and paperbark facia and windows. The Woodlands Grey/Paperbark combination looks awesome, and I would highly recommend you stick with Woodlands Grey roof. I dont know that surfmist wood look as good with the colours you have described. I wouldnt think the verandah posts being the same colour as the rest would look boring. I think the Woodlands Grey is enough to give it that contrast. But if you dont like the colour once its done, its an easy fix. I hope it turns out great for you.
