Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 30, 2009 9:46 pm Hi All, I have recently found some issues with my home which is currently in the process of being built. I need opinions on this as I myself am not a builder however the work does not look to be of a standard I would expect. The shot of the wood inserts are from my garage rear access doorway and my sliding door to alfresco, I also have the same issue on another rear sliding door. I need to know if this is proper building practice? I have payed for full brick infills and need to know if what the builder has done is normal? The shots of the gaps are where the foam inserts are supposed to be inserted however as you can see no inserts are between the bricks, I noticed when the bricklayers first started they delivered the material to site however only some sections of the house have this foam material inserted between the bricks. I need advise on both of these aspects as I will be looking at getting a builder inspector onsite to look into these issues. http://www.flickr.com/photos/10343368@N ... 314142417/ Regards Re: Advice on brick work, link attached to pics. 2Sep 30, 2009 9:59 pm Oh wow Princess1... I don't know if this is normal or not, but I have just posted some pics up on my thread of some similar issues so would be very interested to hear from others on this. Fingers crossed for you (and me) that this is how it's meant to be and not as a result of sub-standard work... I'm thinking maybe they could be meant as some kind of expansion joint or something?, maybe to be filled with a rubber compound type grout/mortar so any movement should be along that and not along the bricks cracking them. I'm not a brickie so I'm only guestimating, ring your builder and show them the pics. Building with CELEBRATION HOMES @ THE GLADES in BYFORD W.A. These are to be filled in before handover, but as they are expansion gaps it usually means that they aren't filled in with the rubber inserts until just before handover. Hope this helps. Re: Advice on brick work, link attached to pics. 5Nov 13, 2009 4:06 pm Hey Meggsy, We met with our builder on site a few weeks ago & he explained these will be completed at the end with what is known as the "corking" method. What we fail to understand is the brickies started using the foam stuff in some areas & half filled some --- the builder couldn't explain why the bricks had done this - poor workmanship is my conclusion!! anyway they assured us it will all be fixed nicely at the end. fingers crossed!! Hi, I'll be starting on my verandah repair soon - replace ledger, rafters, roofing iron, flashing etc. (fascia board already done). My question is about the timber ledger… 0 3334 Hi all, Been browsing project builders' website and saw Masterton with attached granny flat design Seeing bad reviews from masterton in this website/facebook, does… 0 18306 |
