Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 30, 2009 1:00 pm I was referred to this site by a friend (Megz) that has recently finished building a house here in Brisbane. We are currently waiting for plans to be approved (apparently approval should be this week some time). We have been told that once AVJennings recieve the approved plans, we have a 3 week wait before we will see anything happen on the land - is this normal? I read the "Do not build with AVJennings" topic (perhaps stupidly) and now fear we are in for a rocky road ahead. Anyone have any encouraging words to offer? We have had a fairly terrible experience with the land so far, as we waited 18months for it to be released. We bought off the plan (i'll never do that again!) and then found the council and developer fighting over who was going to redo the water pipeline (as it wasn't big enough for the new estate). We have now made it through that and have settled on the land. Ready to start the next chapter... Re: Building with AVJennings (Gallery 265) in Brisbane 2Sep 30, 2009 3:30 pm Welcome SFinn.
We looked into AVJennings as well. I think we went with Mcon because they had the house plan that was just what we we were after. Just remember that all areas are different, it all depends on your contractors as to how quick they go and the quality of work. Friends of ours built out ur way through Mcon and took 3 months maybe. Ours took just over 6 months. Quick note - to post photos go to photobucket.com. Once you create an account you can Upload images and email them to all your friends and family. And to post here as well. Turn around time after approval - I think in our contract it had 20 days before site start. Depends on how organised your builder is I guess. Our SS (Site Supervisor) wasnt too organised but we got there in the end. Is this the floorplan - got it off the website. I like it! Yes Megzy that is the floor plan, has very high ceilings and makes the place feel HUGE! Went with the Portal Facade and render. Can't wait for it all to start. Wastold by the certifer that they will be releasing the plans early next week. Fingers crossed that things get started sooner rather than later. Thanks for the tip for attaching photos. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Building with AVJennings (Gallery 265) in Brisbane 7Oct 05, 2009 3:08 pm We built with AVJ 8years ago, and lived in the house up until the end of last year, we never had major problem, the build went smoothly and the after build maintainance was great. We had a problem with a shower that was not sealed properly and damaged carpet, they replace the lot, resealed and tiled the shower & relayed new carpet 4years later (we where unlucky and got caught in the pre gst build rush so we got stuck with a bad tiler). We would have built with AVJ again but due to the slope on our new block it was not possible.
