Argh. Would love to know how your going
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We recently had our contract signing day, but as one of us could not attend we just picked them up to sign at home and return them.
On the day i had pointed out a few mistakes in the tender and on the plans. I was told to still sign it and those things will be brought up in a post contract variation.
Now is this normal? The business I'm in you don't put your signature on a legally binding document if it is not correct.
Some of the things, it could be argued, were our fault they were wrong, but some things that were there the whole time were just not on the drawings anymore. They left them off by mistake.
You will get another set of drawings, the final construction drawings, before you begin on site. They will send you this before anything happens on site. This is the drawings you want to make sure are correct as this is the one that will be used and referred to by all the trades.
We also had some mistakes on our contract but everything was either fixed on the day or after by way of variations. We have two post contract variations and three building variations. So far, all these have been implemented on our build. We are almost at lock-up.
If you don't feel comfortable signing the contract as is, you could ask them to send you the variations then you can sign it all in one go.
