Browse Forums Building A New House Re: all the sand - nearly done new pics added 221Aug 11, 2010 2:57 pm Hi Carlswil, Yeh nearly done time is starting to drag a bit now. They have the tiling to finish off and a little bit of painting, then i guess install the stove etc and hot water, showerscreens and thats about all i can think of. Im just getting stressed out now about organising everything else that has to happen after handover and making sure the bank makes payment on time etc. Re: all the sand - nearly done new pics added 222Aug 11, 2010 3:25 pm Looking great Love all your colourings Re: all the sand - nearly done new pics added 223Aug 12, 2010 9:59 pm Hi all, So im feeling a bit up/down with this build at the moment. We have booked in our walkthrough for the 23rd and have got the final invoice of a massive $7.61 from the builder so arranged for the bank to do there thing etc. All of this is very exciting and i obviously cant wait to finally get in the house, at this stage all is looking good for getting the keys on the 26th August. Carpets are being put in on the 27th and the girls bed is being delivered on the 30th. However, i had no idea how much a rainwater tank was going to cost us and definately had not budgeted for this, so it looks like my floorboards/tiles decision has now been made for me as laminate is about all the budget is going to allow for at the moment. Im really stressing out about getting all the trades in at the right time and in the correct order. I now wish that i had just paid Hickinbotham to do it all so i could move into a completed house, definately something to remember for next time. Also getting frustrated at tradies not willing to come out and do quotes, none seem overly keen to come out and quote its ridiculous, and the ones i have seen still havent got the quotes through to me even though we are going to want the work done over the next three-four weeks. Ahhh rant over, im just feeling really depressed about it all today, this may be the stress of work being hectic at the moment, the dread of moving again im not sure. But i cant wait till i can get super excited about it all again and just cant wait to spend a night in the house. Oh and i really want to win the lottery as well so i can stop worrying about money LOL V Re: all the sand - FINAL INVOICE $7.61 hahahaha 224Aug 12, 2010 11:16 pm I don't get the $7.61 how odd! I know I was totally over the build by the end of it. Just wait till you move in, the rush will come back Re: all the sand - FINAL INVOICE $7.61 hahahaha 225Aug 13, 2010 9:17 am Who did you get rainwater tank quotes from, and how much? I'd like to win lotto. It would be nice to pick whatever I wanted for the house and not have to worry about how much it costs. contract signed: Nov 09 Released to Construction: 23 Jul 10 Slab poured: 9 Aug 10 Frame completed: 30 Aug 10 Windows & Gutters: 7 Sep 10 Bricks: 15 - 23 Sep 10 Roof: 24 Sep 10 Gyprock: 20 Oct 10 Lockup: 25 Oct 10 Kitchen: 27 Oct 10 Tiling: 6 - 9 Nov 10 Painting: 17 Nov 10 Carpet: 30 Nov 10 PCI: 15 Dec 10 Handover: 17 Dec 10 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=35943 Re: all the sand - FINAL INVOICE $7.61 hahahaha 226Aug 13, 2010 2:10 pm Hi V I hope your feeling more excited about getting your house in 2 weeks (!) Do you have any special requirements for rainwater aside from the mandatory 1000L? I haven't done much research on this but I would have expected it to cost under $1000 - you always see those specials in TV guide with free pump... On the flooring thing - can you get reasonable tiles for a similar price to laminate? If so I think this is a better option - just my opinion of course. Re: all the sand - FINAL INVOICE $7.61 hahahaha 227Aug 13, 2010 3:06 pm Hi there all the sand! Long time no speak Loving your build and remember that it will all fall into place. It probably seems a little overwhelming right now, but all will be ok. Confused Renovator Re: all the sand - FINAL INVOICE $7.61 hahahaha 228Aug 13, 2010 4:33 pm Hi all, Netadelle - Good to see you on here again, your house is looking fantastic, those plantation shutters are gorgeous but i dont know how you had the patience to do them yourselves. Carlswil - I had someone from EcoPlus tanks come out today, they said they would do all the stormwater, install the tank etc for $3000. At first he said $2500 which i actually signed up for, however he has just called to say that he forgot to include the trenching so it was supposed to go up to $3,300 but he said he would cover some so to make it $3,000 even. Im still waiting on quotes from another guy who is associated with the concreter who i am also still waiting for a quote from. I dont know whats a good price for tanks and stormwater and whats not. I am inclined to just still go ahead with these EcoTanks people because they at least made an effort to come out to the place and have given me a price straight away with no mucking around. Others just dont seem bothered if they get the business or not. Steg - To meet our land rules (not sure of the correct term), we need to have a 2000L tank which captures 100% of the roof water. Its all confusing to me i have no idea of how tanks work etc. DamNita - LOL Yes long time no speak! Thanks for the kind words, im sure when im moved in and enjoying a cuppa i wont remember all this painful stuff. V Re: all the sand - FINAL INVOICE $7.61 hahahaha 229Aug 13, 2010 4:41 pm I think our stormwater through hickinbothams is between 1600 and 1900. Maxiplas has on their website a 2500ltr round tank for $349 (inc delivery). You'd probably have to pay more for a pump etc. contract signed: Nov 09 Released to Construction: 23 Jul 10 Slab poured: 9 Aug 10 Frame completed: 30 Aug 10 Windows & Gutters: 7 Sep 10 Bricks: 15 - 23 Sep 10 Roof: 24 Sep 10 Gyprock: 20 Oct 10 Lockup: 25 Oct 10 Kitchen: 27 Oct 10 Tiling: 6 - 9 Nov 10 Painting: 17 Nov 10 Carpet: 30 Nov 10 PCI: 15 Dec 10 Handover: 17 Dec 10 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=35943 Re: all the sand - FINAL INVOICE $7.61 hahahaha 230Aug 13, 2010 4:43 pm So today i decided to have a little bit of retail therapy to try and cheer myself up about this build. While in target taking pictures of green things for DeeMaree i stumbled across some lamps for my bedroom and also some shadow box mirrors which im going to put in the entry. After reading Shonzillas thread about what to do in her samll entry i saw a picture of a mirror that had a little shelf on the bottom that you could put candles etc on and have been looking everywhere for one but cant seem to find one anywhere, so i figured that these shadow boxes would do a similar thing. Im hoping to put some little tea light candles in there or small vase etc. I got two lamps for my bedroom and one for in the family room. The best thing was that when i got home and read the receipt i realised that they only charged me for two of the shadox box mirrors ($18.88 each) and only two of the light fittings. Target must have a real problem with this at the moment as when the toy sale was on i went and did all my xmas shopping for the girls and also got Aliyah a bike for her birthday when i got it all home i realised that they didnt charge me for the bike!! And finally the girls are having a china doll type theme for there bedroom so have just picked up some pics for there room also, pics below: Pic of the lamps below, this pic is terrible, in real life they are a gorgeous sparkly silver colour: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Shadow Box Mirror: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Pics for the girls room: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Oh and toilet was fitted today: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ V Re: all the sand - FINAL INVOICE $7.61 hahahaha 231Aug 13, 2010 4:47 pm carlswil - on our original contract it said something like $2,200 for our stormwater as a PC item so we said we would do it ourselves. I thought that a tank wasnt going to cost that much, just assumed that you payed the $400 odd dollars got the tank and put the storwater in it (stupid me didnt actually thing about how it would get there etc), anyway when i started calling around there is all these extra costs you need to pay like $700-$900 odd for a pump, then you need a master plumber to come and sign off on it etc etc. Stupid bloody rainwater tank turns into a massive pain in the butt. I wish i had just got Hickinbotham to do the whole lot now (well at least the stormwater and tank side of things). V Re: all the sand - FINAL INVOICE $7.61 hahahaha 232Aug 13, 2010 4:57 pm I love those lamps. Those pics will look good in the girls room, very nice. I haven't given too much thought to our rain water tank, but I guess that's something I'll have to think about eventually. I just see those ads in the paper on Sunday and think that they don't look too expensive. contract signed: Nov 09 Released to Construction: 23 Jul 10 Slab poured: 9 Aug 10 Frame completed: 30 Aug 10 Windows & Gutters: 7 Sep 10 Bricks: 15 - 23 Sep 10 Roof: 24 Sep 10 Gyprock: 20 Oct 10 Lockup: 25 Oct 10 Kitchen: 27 Oct 10 Tiling: 6 - 9 Nov 10 Painting: 17 Nov 10 Carpet: 30 Nov 10 PCI: 15 Dec 10 Handover: 17 Dec 10 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=35943 Re: all the sand - FINAL INVOICE $7.61 hahahaha 233Aug 13, 2010 4:59 pm Haha yes thats exactly what i thought about them as well. Definately another cost to factor in. Our contract actually says that it needs to be done before we move in, although Hickinbotham have said that if its not in it doesnt stop them from giving you the keys but you can apparently get hefty fines from council if they find out. Re: all the sand - FINAL INVOICE $7.61 hahahaha 235Aug 15, 2010 11:12 pm I love those little geisha girl pictures! They are so cute. My target sucks in comparisson to yours, that or I just don't have enough time to look properlly. Likely it is the time thing. The plantation shutters - yes we are crazy, we have just taken delivery of 9 more to finish of the house. So lots of painting in my future! Re: all the sand - FINAL INVOICE $7.61 hahahaha 236Aug 17, 2010 8:55 am Bummer about the stormwater V - I thought you meant you just needed a rainwater tank (and must have been getting seriously ripped off if that was influencing your flooring decision). 3k sounds like a pretty good deal for stormwater + 2,000L tank. all the sand We have booked in our walkthrough for the 23rd I'm having a walkthrough on the 23rd too! Ok Ok...mine is just a general trot around the place with the SS not PCI! Re: all the sand - PCI Monday! Keys Thursday 237Aug 20, 2010 2:23 pm Hi all, So im still having issues actually getting quotes from people, i just dont understand it i mean the concreters are looking at getting $7000-$9000 from me why dont they just seem to keen to give me a bloody quote, same goes for stormwater guys and rain water tank people. I have messaged the first company back regarding the rainwater tank to confirm that they were including all rainwater and to confirm that the overflow is to go back to the pit? and he told me i would definately here back from them yesterday and still havent heard a thing. Its driving me insane, the longer these idiots take to put the rainwater tank in, the longer i have to wait for concrete and therefore the longer it is till i can actually move in to this house. ANyway on a better note i think im going to go and order a lounge for the family room this afternoon or tomorrow, and i guess i better make a decision on flooring soon as well. I think im going to attempt to lay some laminate floorboards in the garage myself as we are turning this into a massive playroom for the girls. Surely being a nice square room it can be that hard........... Steg - You made me laugh re: your walkthrough comment, i hope your house is going well. Cant wait to hear all about it on Monday. Im not sure if the house is supposed to be clean for this walkthrough cause at the moment its an absolute pigsty, there is dirt everywhere, bricks definately need to be cleaned it just looks horrible at the moment. Well ill post pics later of any purchases i make today or tomorrow.....best thing about building this house was the new furniture that came with it, i have never ever had a new lounge suite, in my old house i had my mum and dads old lounge at first, then we swaped that over for a friends lounge that they were getting rid of and was much more modern. I cant wait to actually have my own new lounge suite that no one has ever used before!! V Re: all the sand - PCI Monday! Keys Thursday 238Aug 23, 2010 1:22 pm Hi all, Well PCI was done today and everything is looking great they just have to put the showerscreens on and the mirrors and there was a few little paint touchups and some touchups to be done in the slab but other than that it was all looking fantastic. We get the keys on Thursday so will prob start to slowly move some things in over the next week and then do the big move the following weekend. The carpets are getting installed on Friday and im still undecided about flooring for the rest of the house. We are going to try and lay some laminate flooring in out garage (which will be the girls playroom) and see how we go, if its fairly easy then we might do that for the rest of the house, there isnt really and tricky corners so that might be the go. Still having troubles with stormwater and water tank etc, the first guy who originally quotes $2500 then went to $3000 then ended up going to $4350 so we told him to bugger off. I need to get something done asap though so that they can get to doing the driveway. So its all happening and now there are hundreds of things to organise but im so excited to bee finally getting my own space again!! I didnt really take any pics today cause nothing has really changed but i do have pics of my turquoise accessories that i have bought over the last few days, i have been hunting for ages and finally found some that i loved. The best bargain was the biggest one, we went into harvey norman to look for a tv cabinet and i caught a glimpse of it on the clearance table reduced from $159 to $40 so walked out with a vase and no cabinet.
