Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 20, 2007 3:05 pm Our neighbour's power line run across the front of our property and the builder wants us to get it "tigger tail tagged", I checked a few site, that means "covered with brightly coloured insulating covers".
Got a quote from an electrician for $2500.00, which we think a bit ridiculous. Isn't it just putting some plastic cover around the cable? Why is it so expensive? Any one has experience with this? Any help appreciated. Cheers Allan http://building-our-first-house.blogspot.com/ Re: Help! How much should power line tiger tail tagging cost?? 2Jun 20, 2007 3:08 pm Bet they are charging a bomb for switching off the supply. Shouldn't your neighbour be paying for this?

Shouldn't your neighbour be paying for this? 3xb Unfortunately because it's us who are building a new house, we have to pay for the covering. This is for the protection of our builder and contractors. We tried very hard to get it relocated, but our neighbour wasn't very friendly and after various attempts we have to give up. Nowadays it would be illegal to run power line across neighbour's property, but that line has been there for god knows how many years, and there's nothing we can do about it. We even offer to pay for the $1500 - $2000 relocation fee and they still refused. I guess one of the biggest reason is, when we lodged the application to council and council sent the letters to all our neighbours, it was during Christmas holiday and they missed the chance to have a say. I bet if they did received the letter, they would lodge at least 50 reasons against our application.... Cheers Allan http://building-our-first-house.blogspot.com/ Re: Help! How much should power line tiger tail tagging cost?? 6Jun 20, 2007 3:39 pm Vlad76 Sounds overly accessive. I paid only $1400 to get my power switched from above ground to underground. AllCastle charge us about $1800 to move the power cable underground. You got a better deal than us. But this tiger tail thing is different, it's talking about the neighbour's power line, not ours. Our builder wants it to be covered to protect the contractors. Found a few PDF from Internet with photos, unfortunately I can't paste photos from work....damn firewalls... How much should power line tiger tail tagging cost?? 7Jun 20, 2007 3:42 pm perryr Allan, Sounds high to me, but I'm not sure what's involved. I'd be asking the sparky "Why so much", and getting some other quotes. Cheers Perry Yes Perry, I did ask and was given the standard answer of crap like: it's very dangerous, high insurance, ....blur blur blur. We are waiting for other quotes. Just thought post it here and get some feedback/advice. Love the video thing on your site, can you please advice how did you do it, what software did you use? Cheers Allan http://building-our-first-house.blogspot.com/ Re: Help! How much should power line tiger tail tagging cost?? 8Jun 20, 2007 3:48 pm Sorry Allan - I didn't mean to tell you how to do the obvious.
As far as the video blog goes - I took the video with my Kodak digital camera, and use a product called Camtasia Studio to add the narration and the effects. I then used the blogger site to create the embedded video. You don't really need to use any software - if you have a camera which does movies with sound, you can upload the files to the blog without editing. I edited because I have the software. I'm still not understanding why it is you that has to pay for this and not your neighbour. It's not like you asked for it to be that way..................confused Re: Help! How much should power line tiger tail tagging cost?? 10Jun 20, 2007 3:56 pm Sally - I don't think the neighbor can be expected to pay for it.
The power line is an existing one, and it has become a safety issue because of the construction of Allan's house. Tagging it makes it visible, which is understandable. The main issue is the cost. You got a better deal than us. http://building-our-first-house.blogspot.com/ I arranged it myself, without any involvement from the builder. And the price depended on how close a power pole is to your property, thuse determining how long the underground cable has to run for. Re: Help! How much should power line tiger tail tagging cost?? 12Jun 20, 2007 4:11 pm Sounds like you need a storm or car crash into the pole. Then get the builder in quick.

Cheers Allan http://building-our-first-house.blogspot.com/ You should have slipped in some extra cash to him for this to happen. Although that's a tough ask, given the power is still on Re: Help! How much should power line tiger tail tagging cost?? 15Jun 20, 2007 7:46 pm Talk to your supply authority. Here in WA, depending on the amount of tiger tails required, they are put on for a couple of hundred dollars. While you have them on the phone I would also be asking them about the legality of you neighbor's supply running across your property. I know that in a lot of states, this is not allowed due to liability issues.
The actual tiger tails take about ten minutes to put on for a standard service wire. Hope this helps. Col Re: Help! How much should power line tiger tail tagging cost 18Mar 24, 2015 2:32 pm Hi , My name is Peter and I work for Sydney Tiger Tails (Part of the Australian Power Services Group) If anyone has any questions in relation to Tiger Tails I am happy to try and answer them for you. In Sydney NSW Ausgrid and Endeavour have slightly different rules in relation to Tiger Tails depending on what lines you are talking about. Service Mains - The lines running fro the pole to your house, building or private pole. Low Voltage Mains - The Main lines running from pole to pole, High Voltage Mains - Main Lines that carry high voltage (Usually located at the top) Telecommunications Lines - Usually a thick black line running from pole to pole (or to the house) and usually well below the power lines. Tiger Tails can be expensive because of a combination of work cover and the energy authority. These two organisations places a mountain of requirements on the installers before they can even think about doing the work. In addition to this for some kinds of work, the energy authorities don't allow ANYONE to do the work except for themselves. This monopoly arrangement means you must pay whatever they say Anyway, if anyone has any questions feel free to ask. Our relationship with the owner is good, but I'm not sure if I want to impose putting a pole on their property. Your conversation with your neighbour must have gone well… 4 9318 7 12002 4 10822 |
