If all goes well, errors fixed, Plaster could start going up either Thursday or Friday this week If not it would look like a Monday start. Has your ss allowed you to get things done before handover? we need a copper pipe to go into the wall for aircon before plaster goes up so I hope our ss is cool about that. Our build just started after such a long wait Land: Titles 27/10/2009 - settled 9/11/2009 House Design: Talbot 28 (Contemporary Façade) Estimated move in date April 2010 ... ok maybe June 2010 with any luck Site Start 22/01/10 - 20/08/10 Handover!! Sandarra Facebook Group Re: Building with Big M in Marriot Waters 64Feb 15, 2010 10:47 pm I've done extra Electrical work and Internal insulation. Nothing is allowed to stick out of the walls until handover. They don't allow you to do it, but it all comes down to your SS and your relationship with them. We get along really well with our SS and he has allowed us to do some things. Good luck with trying to get your copper pipe installed. Facade is awesome. How much notice did you get of the lockup stage? We should be finished frame end of this month, and then lockup after that - but like you, we want to get an inspector in at lockup/preplaster for a check of everything. Thanks slknv Our build slowed right after Xmas and we were always in contact with our SS. Our SS was aware that we have inspections at the end of every stage. We had a weeks notice to organise our inspection and the builder had week to fix errors before plaster goes up. You shouldn't have to accept ** workmanship so take it up with the supervisor after the Xmas break. Hi Hels, At what stage of the build was this done? And was there a final "brickwork service" (so to say) which looked at all the little (or big) imperfections, eg. cracked mortar, missing mortar, poorly placed bricks, cracked or damaged bricks etc.? When the mortar is repointed, is that a concern, eg. in terms of a different look/texture/colour or similar? And when individual bricks are replaced, is there any structural concern?? What if the replaced brick was the one with a tie?? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Building with Big M in Marriott Waters - Plastering Done 70Mar 03, 2010 12:35 pm Hi all Went down to the house to see if the plasterers had finished, I was surprised to see it almost all done, just the alfresco cornices left to be done otherwise inside the house looked completed. Also the cabinet maker was there installing the vanities and the kitchen bench and cupboards, he had almost finished with only a few piece to install when I left at lunch time. I must say it is quiet exciting as the outside of the house has taken shape and now the inside is slowly starting to take shape as well . I still have no idea how to post pictures here, so I post them on my blog instead. Cabinets were completed the other day, just waiting for the fixing to start hopefully by next week. We were told yesterday by our SS that Painting on the inside should start on Tuesday the 16th, also our bricks are getting cleaned again, some stage next week and hoping this time they come up nicer than the previous time. Been busy this week so I haven’t had a chance to get down to the house, so hopefully next week I can get down there and take more progression pictures of our build. The house looks great on the inside and without furniture in it, the house looks massive. The outside of the house I can’t say the same, as our bricks look very depressing, and it’s letting down the rest of the house. I’m having the same brick problem as Steiveg in the post below; viewtopic.php?f=31&t=30834 Take this problem out of the equation, our build has been great from day 1 of site start and if anyone is building with Big M in Melbourne SE, I highly recommend my SS, he has been great throughout our whole journey. I thought the paint colour we choose for the walls was a darker colour, but we just have to make a feature walls darker in colour as the house is very bright, you can get away with wearing sun glasses inside. Took some pictures and have added them to my blog, click on link below. Sandarra Facebook Group Re: Building with Big M in Marriott Waters - Completion Stag 76Mar 31, 2010 7:16 pm My partner and I drove down to the house to see if there were any tradies onsite and hopefully they had the house open. But there was no one there today, so well walked around the house on the outside and looking in from every window to see what work has been done. All tiling has been done in wet areas and kitchen splashback, also our garage door was installed and electrical fit off complete. We were about to leave and I wanted to do around lap around the house and our SS just rocked up which was great as he let us into the house quickly to show us what work had been done, and what was to follow, unfortunately I left my camera inside the car so no pictures this week. We were informed by our SS that a representative from Austral Bricks is coming too inspect our bricks sometime this week and hopefully come up with a solution on how to fix these bricks, as im my previous post they look Horrible Builder; Big M Design; Soho 32 Facade; Ascent Blog; http://mickeyb-soho.blogspot.com Trend; viewtopic.php?f=31&t=23990 Re: Building with Big M in Marriott Waters - Completion Stag 77Apr 01, 2010 8:11 pm mickeyb My partner and I drove down to the house to see if there were any tradies onsite and hopefully they had the house open. We are too having same problem (seems lots of us down SE use the nougats!!) I'm building with Simmonds but have had a lot of bricks chipped and colour seeping through in last 2 weeks since they were cleaned so my SS is getting rep out next week. Considering they still have to do another brick clean I'm very worried!! Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! Now comes all the hard work-decorating.... I think my bricks have been cleaned for the second time and it has just made them worse. We now have some bricks which have gone green. I have no idea how they are going to fix these bricks, our independent inspector is well aware of the issue and he has a few options for the builder, I could only guess what they are. I’ll just have to wait until Austral come to inspect the house. Otherwise our build is going great, tiling done and fitting off should be done by next week. Our slabs went down only a few weeks apart and my plaster is still not done I'll be watching your brick problem closely as I have the nougats as well Re: Building with Big M in Marriott Waters - Completion Stag 80Apr 06, 2010 3:02 pm Hi MickeyB, Just saw your thread, we have the exact same issues with our bricks. We are using the Nougat bricks, are you also using Nougat? They have turned green in some areas and have been washed 3 times and seem to be worse now than before. The beige coating also seems to be wearing off as you mentioned in one of your posts. In some areas, the bricks are also turning yellowish, as if they have acid burns. The bricks company came to our house and wrote a report. The builder then got the bricks cleaner back and washed the bricks as per the report but it didn't work. Now back to square 1 and the bricks company need to come back to find out what the problem is. Have you got a solution yet? This is doing my head in. We are almost at the end of our build and it feels like everything will be finished but the bricks will still not be fixed. Very stressful time indeed. Hope yours gets resolved soon.
