Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 23, 2009 8:34 pm I thought some form of acid cleaning was completed shortly after brickwork was completed...and I think that has actually occured, but I've taken the pictures below and am seeking opinions on whether it is acceptable. There are numerous areas where the mortar has been splashed over the bricks and has now been there for some time (the brickwork would have been completed over 3 months ago). http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/MSCoops/ with a password of bricks if it asks for one. The house is hopefully less than a month from handover, so is this something I can raise in the defect report? What are the chances of having the builder "fix" the issue? Re: Have these bricks been cleaned?? 2Sep 23, 2009 8:39 pm It does ask for the password And I wouldn't be accepting that... also some of the widths of the mortar look un-even 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' That’s not a problem with acid wash, that’s just poor workmanship. As said above, joints look uneven, joints poorly raked, and bricks weren't wiped down prior to mortar setting. I had another look at the house today at other areas of the brickwork and it's almost as if someone was assigned to do this section of the house and was just sloppy about it. There are other minor areas of "mortar mess" further around the house, but nothing that compares to this. I'm hoping that when the builder sends in their clean-up team, that they will make some effort to fix it up. We're planning to get an independant inspector in prior to the final inspection, so I'll point it out to him and see what he thinks about it (assuming it's still there). You have mandatory building inspections and privately engaged building inspections.
