Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 23, 2009 10:25 am We are at the slab pour stage of the building process and have quotes for everything but the slab as our project manager didn't get a quote or a contract. The concreter of course has blown out the cost because the project manager accepted their statement that they could do it cheaper than our other quotes of 42 to 43 thousand. The concreter by the way is a friend of the carpenter who gave discounted their price to one of our better quotes as they were overpriced, so I think the concretor is supplementing this carpenters income. Because of this it doesn't seem like the project manager knows what he's doing as esentially all he's contracted to do is get quotes and supervise. We have only just begun and he's blown the budget out 30 thousand through this mistake, and he's being paid 30 grand to do his job. How much does a builder cost in general? I mean we've got all the other quotes and once the slab debarcle is sorted out all that needs to be done is supervision and making sure the contractors do everything to code and don't go over quoted budgets. I want to know whether we can replace him with someone who can supervise on site 5 days a week for a weekly wage to deal with the tradies, as well as organise a part time labourer to clean up and do odd jobs. Re: How much does a builder cost 2Sep 26, 2009 2:24 am I would say approx $60-70 per hour dependant on his experience. Also, if he has others working for him he tacks on another 15% on top of their wages for himself then you have the cost of materials. Builders can work on different systems - 1. whereby they give you a quote for the job and that is usually what you pay. This quote would normally be over what they expect to charge in case it goes over they don't want to lose out though sometimes it can also work in your favour 2. You pay as you go (I think this to be preferable) Hope this helps 7 11927 Approvals are covered in the cost we are paying to the pool company. The only thing stated in our home build contract for the additional cost is engineering support. … 3 7104 Sorry but you have a crap builder. Probably too late now. For our last build I only spoke to builders who would allow me easy access (at no cost). I used my own sparky… 10 9748 |
