Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 22, 2009 10:16 pm Hi everyone, I've been checking out this great forum over the last week and now decided to take the plunge and do my first post... Does anyone have any good contacts for Retaining wall companies in Melbourne? I'm building in the northern suburbs... I need to have a retaining wall built (preferably timber sleeper with steel H posts) and it will be greater than 1m in height, so i'm looking for someone who can get the engineering, council approvals and sort it all out in one go - if thats even possible? Appreciate any recommendations! Thanks, Lenny16 Re: Retaining wall recommendation - Melbourne? 2Sep 22, 2009 10:46 pm Welcome to HomeOne Lenny! Sorry, can't help with any names of companies. We have to have a retaining wall at the side of our house but the builder is organising it all. Someone will have a contact for you. Re: Retaining wall recommendation - Melbourne? 3Sep 23, 2009 10:58 am We built our wall ourselves as the quote we received was very, very high. It came in at about 14k, but we managed to get it all done for under 7k. This included having an excavator come out, remove about 8 truck loads of soil, dig all our holes (about 30), concrete, buying the materials, and paying a labourer to assist for a couple of days. We saved on the engineers designs as my brother is an engineer. hard work but worth the 7k saving. Re: Retaining wall recommendation - Melbourne? 4Sep 23, 2009 12:47 pm Garry from Kelgar Mini-diggers is building our retaining wall. He's been great through the entire process. Don't think he can do engineering plans, though -- we had to go to an engineer for that. It's all about wireless, self install now. The cost/benefit of wired setups for the house are no longer what they used to be. Lots of wireless options. Eufy, Arlo and… 2 9792 Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5179 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16122 |
