Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 22, 2009 5:14 pm Ive searched this site but cant seem to find anyone that is building with Mirvac. Does anyone have any opinions about them? We have a tendor from them and masterton and Mirvac has come out cheaper (in our novice opinion). However we have a sloping block which we are happy with (only a holding deposite as yet) and they did not include dropped edge beams which a few other builders we have chatted with have suggested we have. So we have asked them to do us a quote on the DEB but the sales guy reckons up to $20,000! Now thats alot but is it cheaper then retaining walls? How can i work out an average costing for DEB's? Thanks for any opinions and help! Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Now the hard work has began.... We dont need a split level but we will have up to a 1 metre split in the house. Which means we can use a normal house design and the building will put a split in it Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Now the hard work has began.... We have been here for 4 years and the house was new when we moved in. We have not had any issues with the house to date. Re: Building with Mirvac? 4Sep 23, 2009 3:42 pm Thanks for that! Well that helps to know that they build a good house at least Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Now the hard work has began.... Retaining walls and landscaping Re: Building with Mirvac? 5Sep 23, 2009 3:58 pm Mirvac is a big builder .. they do residential and big commercial projects.. from what i know they don't build any houses if its NOT their land .. they only do their estates .. Repo .. well.. they're a big builder so they have resources, also means they can take you for a ride and you wouldn't even know .. their work is generally good .. my friend built with them 2 years back and this is his experience i'm sharing here .. He did run into a few issues.. like price increases they imposed on him .. he had to go to fair trading office to get it resolved.. caz with a big builder its almost impossible to reach someone in an authoritative position to help you.. ur always talking to their staff .. some basic architectural faults.. like when he flipped the rumpus from left to right they forgot to move the window/door accordingly .. also his 1st floor squeaked when walked over... etc ... they fixed it up obviously, but this can happen with any builder .. their upgrade choices were quite a lot .. and expensive as well.. even though their house prices start low .. you will probably end up a good $10-15 under market if you build with them though .. I didn't particularly like their designs.. hence i'm not a fan of their floorplans.. but people do..and i think that should be the criteria.. to have a floorplan built that you like.. not go after a builder or builder name.. Hope this helps --- I don't have a signature - just this sentence saying that I don't have one - that'll do! Re: Building with Mirvac? 6Sep 23, 2009 4:14 pm We will be building in a mirvac estate. So far we have found the sales guy very helpful and have been told we can deal with him though out the build. Its such a big choice! The prob is that we really like our block and really like the split in the house- the back will have 9 foot ceilings which will be nice- but some builders wont do the split.
