How do you finally decide on the builder you will be using?
At the moment we have a choice of three. The designs are all very similar and so is the base cost.
I just dont know what we should do from here. Can we go to each company with the design and find out costs for changes (each of the designs has a couple of changes), find out what kind of standard fittings (door handles/ cupboard/bench colours/ tile choices/basins etc)that they use, ask for references and check out houses being constructed by the company before signing anything OR do they make you sign first then do everything in the pre-start. Can you leave them after pre-start if you dont like their inclusions or is it too late? eg: One company may only provide acrylic basins as standard and the other china, we prefer china so would go with the company who uses them.
We won't be able to upgrade as money is very tight and just the house alone will just about take us up to our borrowing limit. (I would prefer to get something I am happy with, rather than something that we had to get as it was standard. IYKWIM) Also cost to the changes will be a big factor.
Most display houses here, that I have seen, all have the upgraded features, so they really don't give you a good idea of the standard inclusions.
It makes it hard to choose one company from the other.
So what did you do before making that final choice?
