I just know the area and the building regs for new estates around here are generally the same. There can be variations in established areas, but 0-1m side setback is the norm unless you have easements or the like in the way. I can't see any reason why you'd have a problem... your builder will know the requirements, plus your plans will have to be lodged for building approval (and possibly developer approval) anyway, so there's no way a mistake like that would get through.
