Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 20, 2009 8:11 pm Hi guys, we are researching fo our first home and were originally going with Frenken Homes but after reading some reviews are rethinking them. my best mate is building with them so we will see how their house turns out but who knows. anyway...how do you know you've picked the right builder for you? i understand that everyone likes different builders for different reasons but how did you make your decision? every builder review that i read has pro and cons all elading from great to appalling. thanks heaps Re: How do you know?? 2Sep 20, 2009 8:17 pm Its hard isnt it, especially when you read negative feedback on a builder. The thing is though there is negative feedback on ALL builders. So in the end we chose ours based on: * the plan we loved and which suited our block, *the right price for the size we wanted (had to stay under strict budget) *the massive upgrade package promo we got, *the awesome salesperson who wasn't at all pushy, *and the speed in which they have been getting things done (so far so good, fingers crossed of course!) good luck finding the right one for you caz Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! Now comes all the hard work-decorating.... I panicked quite a bit when I read some really bad reviews for PD (who I'm currently building with). But then I stopped for a moment and read the reviews for the other builders and also read some really bad ones. Then I found some fantastic reviews for PD and for other builders and I realised that every builder has good and bad stories behind them. In the end, I decided on PD for three reasons - they had a floor plan I really liked; the display homes had a feel about them that suited me; and I liked the way the finished their houses in terms of fittings and appliances. I guess ultimately it's just a matter of trusting your instinct and taking in everything you read with a grain of salt. Re: How do you know?? 4Sep 20, 2009 8:25 pm I looked for consistency in peoples criticism. If you know what the builders failings are you might be able to work around it. The builders I went with made mistakes before the build with the contract. I found only one bad review of their construction of homes, just bad paperwork and an unwillingness to make changes after the contract has been signed. Gravity. Its the law. I think you have to of course, like the floorplan and it has to suit your needs. You have to like the 'feel' of their homes and the quality should be acceptable to you. The way they approach YOU as a customer and a prospective buyer is an indication of the way they do business I think. We went through a thousand homes and only ever felt like one company had the homes that we felt comfortable in. They also only had the right floorplan and big enough bedrooms for us, with a balance of living and bedroom space. It's a personal thing. I think the best advice I would give anyone would be Do as much Homework as possible.
