Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 19, 2009 7:22 pm I can not currently decide between Austral Urban One Chocolate or Latte so have done little mockups of our facade with both options. Also have each brick with Monument garage door and Manor Red garage door, and also with render that will be added later (unless site costs come in under what was quoted and then I can add it on now ) http://picasaweb.google.com.au/lh/photo ... directlink Which brick do you like best? I'm concerned the Chocolate is too dark with the Monument roof, though it looks better with the render to lighten it up. At the moment I'm leaning towards the Latte (lighter) brick. And I really like the red door to break up the browns, not sure if it needs the matching garage door or not.... Pick which one you like best and tell me why!! (excuse the crudeness of my mockups, i have been playing in Paint cos I dont have photoshop but its still very addictive) Cheers Caz Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! I went for the chocolate brick with the monument red garage door. Why? Cause i think it looked pretty... Seriously, thats how i made all the decisions for my place - basically what appealed to *me* and what i thought looked the best together. But in saying that, i think they all look quite good!! Re: Brick and garage door colour choices - pick one! 3Sep 19, 2009 8:54 pm Hi Caz, I voted for chocolate bricks and monument garage. I really like this look, especially with the red door - i feel like it makes the red door 'pop' a little more lol. And if you add some render later it will lighten the entire effect of your home. but... I also like the look of the latte bricks with the monument garage door. just think keeping the garage door and roof colour the same allows your front door to be a bit more of a feature. i'm sure whatever you choose it will look great though Re: Brick and garage door colour choices - pick one! 4Sep 20, 2009 1:54 pm I also like the look of chocolate brick and monument garage door, so voted for that! Not sure if you can do it or not, but I think that a timber garage door (caoba down or something) might look nice too? Good luck with your decision. Have you asked Austral for some addresses of houses nearby that have used the same brick. If you get more than one address for each brick you are interested in, you may stumble across mortar/render/gutter colour combinations that appeal to you. DL good idea about the lighter mortar and gutters - although now of course i am thinking of dark frames etc with the latte bricks to make them stand out too.....! If you had the choc brick with monument door (which I also like), I think it would look good with or without render.... can you do a mockup of the monument door with render? Re: Brick and garage door colour choices - pick one! 14Sep 21, 2009 1:35 pm I chose the red front door and grey garage because I don't like the idea of a massive garage door being the feature of a house. For the same reason, if I were choosing to render, I wouldn't surround the garage door with a lighter colour render. Re: Brick and garage door colour choices - pick one! 15Sep 21, 2009 1:48 pm That's a tough decision! I haven't voted yet because I can't decide Our neighbours who are also building with S have latte bricks, monument gutters and paperbark fascias (I think - I did have a stickybeak when they were delivered but can't exactly remember) and sambuca roof tiles and black window frames. The bricklayers are there at the moment so I can take a photo when there's a bit more to see if you like. I do like the chocolate and red combo but am not too sure about a red garage door - I like it but I'm not sure if might be too over-powering. Also think about whether there is an infill over the garage and what colour that will be - I hadn't even considered this and I think I mucked up this decision because I had to choose something quickly at the colour selection. I guess that the other thing that can make a difference to the overall appearance is the mortar colour. I've just checked on the progress of the neighbours bricking... they haven't got enough of the front (around the windows) done yet - will check again when they finish for the afternoon.
