Re: Henley Voyager 383- update and pics 5/1 1002Jan 12, 2011 3:11 pm Felistopher I've also ordered some plants on the internet and they should arrive tomorrow. I'm so excited/nervous to see how they arrive, as I've never ordered plants on the net before Front yard is looking great! Top job moving those boulders! I think they look really stunning mass-planted. http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af280/felicitycw/rhoeo.jpg They were only $2.50 each, and the cheapest I could find them for around here was $7.50 each at Sertels. Chris and Marie's had them for $8.50 each. I figure there has to be a catch... so I only ordered 12. But I'll see how I go! Re: Henley Voyager 383- thrs nothin yacan't buy on the inter 1005Jan 14, 2011 11:59 am MY PLANTS ARRIVED!!!!!!!!! So for those of you who've wondered about ordering plants online, they turned up on my doorstep like this http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af280/felicitycw/CIMG3600.jpg And when I opened them they had the roots wrapped in damp newspaper, were taped securely in place and were cushioned with newspaper around the edges. http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af280/felicitycw/CIMG3601.jpg Unfortunately, the weather's too crappy to get out and put them straight in the ground. So I put them in pots. Thinking I might order a heap more! http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af280/felicitycw/CIMG3602.jpg Re: Henley Voyager 383- thrs nothin yacan't buy on the inter 1006Jan 14, 2011 12:19 pm oh wow!!! That's awesome! Re: Henley Voyager 383- thrs nothin yacan't buy on the inter 1008Jan 14, 2011 8:56 pm I was pretty impressed with the condition of them, given they've come from so far away and were de-potted/packed last Sunday. Such a cheap and convenient way to shop! Not sure I would mail order big plants (ie trees) as they say on their site they have to chop some branches off to make them fit in the boxes. Depends how cheap they are I guess... Never say never when it comes to shopping Re: Henley Voyager 383- thrs nothin yacan't buy on the inter 1009Jan 15, 2011 4:19 am Felistopher I was pretty impressed with the condition of them, given they've come from so far away and were de-potted/packed last Sunday. Not much point posting pics as I saw the entire neighbourhood drive past!!!! (that's one smiley face for each of you-thanks for the toots/waves/encouragement) It needs a little something more, but I'm not exactly sure what/where... Will put down mulch, river pebbles etc and then reassess Re: Henley Voyager 383- thrs nothin yacan't buy on the inter 1012Jan 16, 2011 6:59 am Felistopher Planted out a bit more of the garden today. Re: Henley Voyager 383- front garden nearly complete :-) 1013Jan 17, 2011 7:25 am Thanks for the website details Felis. Im also looking to buy a native gardenia but it isnt available at bunnings or the garden shops i have been to. Will check the plant website u mentioned. Can i ask how much do they charge for delivery? Re: Henley Voyager 383- front garden nearly complete :-) 1014Jan 17, 2011 3:52 pm Native gardenia? I had never seen one of them until I just looked it up now The website I suggested has them- it came up as the third search result! They charged me 14.55 for delivery. I'm not sure what the weight limit is (i.e. how much delivery goes up for each kg). I'd say your delivery would be about the same, as a native gardenia would fit easily into the size box I was sent. They look nice! Re: Henley Voyager 383- side yard blitz, pics 17/1 1015Jan 17, 2011 4:27 pm Yesterday we visited the nursery to look at which types of mulch, pebbles and gravel we might like to get for the side of the house... and on a whim ordered 3 cubic metres of 7mm crushed rock and 2 metres of mulch Then, because all the crushed rock was in the driveway, it became a race against time to get it all moved in 4 hours to get the car out and get a very important 2nd birthday celebration. It was so so so hot out in the sun. Thank god for 30+. I managed to only get burnt on one spot on my leg and I got a mean thong tan (on my feet) So we put crushed rock beside the garage- http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af280/felicitycw/CIMG3615.jpg And behind the garage where the water tank and bins are- http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af280/felicitycw/CIMG3614.jpg And on the other side of the house, which is just about ready to plant now I'm thinking of something blossom-y, like ornamental pear trees here. You'll be able to see them from the windows in the living/dining Groundcovering gardenias underneath could look nice . Need to do more research on that one. Anybody have ornamental pears??? http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af280/felicitycw/CIMG3613.jpg Today I did all the mulching, which was like shovelling fairy dust after doing gravel the day before! http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af280/felicitycw/CIMG3608.jpg This area just needs some stepping stones or sleepers (not sure what to get???) and some river pebbles to edge it. Can't wait for those cycads to grow, I love them http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af280/felicitycw/CIMG3612.jpg And this whole area beside the driveway needs river pebbles too. http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af280/felicitycw/CIMG3611.jpg So with those few things + a lawn, we are nearly looking good at the front. The most convenient thing about all this gardening is I've lost 4 of the 6kg I put on over xmas Too much turkey Re: Henley Voyager 383- side yard blitz, pics 17/1 1016Jan 17, 2011 9:24 pm Your garden is coming up beautifully Felis Sorry did i write native gardenia?? gosh must get my head checked the plant im looking for is evergreen frangipani. Love your facade and how the yard is shaping up! I have no idea what I would do with myself if I had that much space to live in! Would you mind PM'ing me the details of the website you used for your plants. Thanks in advance! Re: Henley Voyager 383- side yard blitz, pics 17/1 1019Jan 20, 2011 7:54 am Looking fabulous, Fel! I don't have ornamental pears at the moment, but I plan to put a whole row along my back fence (manchurian, I think...). Shade in Summer, beautiful Autumn colour, followed by Winter sun and white blossom in Spring! I still need to do a bit more research, as I'm not quite up to that bit yet! EDIT: And I've planned my whole garden so that when you're inside and looking out the windows you see balance, and/or a focal point. My garden will be quite simple, yet formal, and using only white flowers! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!!
