The wait is over I really like your house plan too, I followed the link on your blog. You will have to post a pic explaining the changed you made. Just a thought... ML, Dont forget the extra Air Con outlets and bigger compressor,if the house is bigger and carpets, blinds. Geezz I hope we are helping and not blowing your mind with this stuff Re: Micklou's build 65Oct 26, 2009 7:31 pm Thanks for the tips guys - much appreciated We have gone back to C today and declined the tender due to the fact that it has come in at a price that when we add in all of the blinds, tiles, floorboards, powerpoints and a modest electrical plan we are at a price that is ON our budget. We then have to add in the stormwater treatment, back deck, driveway, landscaping and some furniture and it has us well over budget. When we started this journey we wanted a modest sized single storey home and we thought we could get that within our budget. It all looked good until we tried to put the bloody thing on our block........ C are going back over the tender and looking for areas where we thought the costs should have dropped and didn't - and our tender is on hold until then. We are also concerned because we don't want to commit to another 5K just to find out what the stormwater will cost. I was speaking to 2 more people during the weekend who were both charged 40K for their treatments and one was with C. I guess that we are just uncomfortable with the cost and one surprise could mean that we have overextended and that is not what we want. It is a bit of a sad end really..... but we are looking at investigating some renovation options instead - I know not new..... but we originally did not want to do that because my eldest DD suffers from allergies and we were advised not to subject her to it..... SO for now we will be moving to my Mums to try and get some distance and perspective and that will happen in Jan. We might be able to save some extra money as well. I doubt that C will be able to bring the tender down enough and any of the options that we have to bring it down will just cheapen the look of the house which will affect re-sale if we ever want to. Will keep in touch as we watch your builds.... hope the rain stops soon ML Re: Micklou's build 66Oct 26, 2009 7:46 pm Oh NO!!!!!!!!!!!!that'sjust terrible. I am so sorry to hear that ML. You have to be sensible and good on you for doing so. What aterrible shame. Please keep us posted on what happens when you decide what to do re renovating etc....Good Luck, I wish you all the best www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Micklou's build 67Oct 26, 2009 7:49 pm Just an after thought. I do know of someonw that built with the absolute basic of all choices. As things wore out over the years they replaced them with thing sof better quality. I guess it dosn't help, but though I would mention it. It's that damn hole in the ground that buggers everything up. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Micklou's build 68Oct 26, 2009 8:09 pm Oh themax I can feel your sympathy in your post. Thank you so much for sharing our pain! We feel as if we are grieving a bit.... not over the loss of the house but with the energy that has gone into the process and not having anything to show for it. I am sure we will find a way to create the space that we need and will of course keep you updated. Keep the piccies of your build coming - they are awesome! Cheers and thanks again! ML Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 8 2234 thank you! do we need to get this or our builder before we commence new build on the block? 2 4419 Hi, did you get any money from insurance? if you did, does it match what you've already paid the builders? 3 5010 |
