Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 16, 2009 10:22 pm Whilst looking at display homes Ez and i saw the Boardwalk 34 at Aaron J homes display in Lakeside Pakenham. So we'd found the house we(I) wanted and we had to now find the land to build it on. We ended up settling on a block in the AV jennings estate Arena, which is in Officer. So now we had the land and the house.... We waited until the First homebuyers grant boost came into effect before signing our contracts so that we could score an extra $6k from the gov. This pushed back our original start time by a couple of weeks, no dramas.... Then, we had to wait. Our plans got sent off to Arena HQ for checking and approval. After 3 weeks of waiting without hearing anything Ez called the builder and was told that Arena had stapled our plans to someone elses and hadn't been checked yet and that we'd here from them the next week. Annoying but no dramas... Next week comes around, now in to middle of august, and we get a phone call from the builder saying Arena wants changes made to the plans = More $$$$$$... hmmm... ok... but now we need to wait another week for the plans to be redrawn and then be resubmitted to Arena for approval again... This time it went through ok, and the next day after this we got council permits done. Finally all sweet. now gotta wait for the builders to get themselves into gear and get started. Sweet told 10 days... So now we are at the start of Sept. hmmm..... with a wedding fast approaching (now over) we thought we'd almost be at lock up by now (according to the sales consultant, who was really helpful during the initial stages when we were dealing with her!) But we weren't. the wedding is now done and dusted... ok it was last week, and the earth works have just started (pictured below). We had our cut and fill done on Monday and today we had the fence, toilet and markers placed out. The House we are building is a Boardwalk 34 by Aaron J Homes. We are getting the traditional facade, with the bar option included in the multi-purpose room. Keeping it pretty similar to the display home with similar white tiles throughout and same colour kitchen, bathroom, ensuite and laundry cupboards. OUr bench tops are similar to the ones that are in the display home but those ones are no longer continued, also the handles are different because they aren't continued either (much to Ez's displeasure as she really liked those ones) Due to design regulations by Arena, we had 25degree roof pitch and min 9foot ceilings throughout and stepped up to 9.5ft in the kitchen/dining/living room. Roof colour will be Gunmetal gray and portico rendered vintage plum... hmmm that's all i can remember for the moment, will add more including foto's in the future. Brett. We've signed up now just across the road from you in Devonia Park. Looks to be a good setup along Cardina road.
