We saw a few houses that were already built with Jarrah that had both a light mortar and a dark mortar. The houses with light mortar looked much better. It gives the bricks a nice, defined, stand-out, wow look. Where as the houses with dark mortar just made the bricks look pretty standard and average. - That's what we thought anyway. We also chose light window frames to match. The mortar lines look a bit uneven, and as if they are covering a bit of the brick face, or is that just because of the angle the pictures are taken? http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7ufhsRSB_gI/S ... 009427.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_7ufhsRSB_gI/S ... 009398.jpg Re: For those who built with Jarrah Boral bricks 7Sep 15, 2009 9:27 pm getting there the examples you have posted are an example of very good work. The reason for the mortor on the brick may be due to the type of rod they have used. I was only recently talking to a brick layer about this and apparently the new plastic rods do this.
If you dont like this look you are best to find a brick layer that uses a rubber hose to joint his brick work. The result is a morter line that is softer and is customised to each brick.
