Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Boltic Pine Lining Board 2Sep 15, 2009 3:47 pm Baltic pine would be ok. There are hundreds of different types of pine, some ok outside and many not ok. We do Baltic pine weatherboards at work as well as cypress pine and more commonly used WR Cedar. I imagine you are after the 'white'look of the baltic pine?? Are the baltic pine lining boards available off the shelf or do you need to get them machined? Re: Boltic Pine Lining Board 3Sep 15, 2009 9:10 pm Hey duke, the ones i am looking at are off the shelf. They have a nicer grain than normal pine and i was planing on staining it another color perhaps a ceder look color. I like cedar but just cant justify paying the price. I figured that most people wont be able to tell the difference when they are installed on the ceiling. This would work out half the price of cedar. Re: Boltic Pine Lining Board 4Sep 15, 2009 9:30 pm Thats interesting, the splayed weatherboards are the same price as the WRC ones. You definately wouldn't use the radiata pine or oregon pine lining boards - they wouldn't hold up outside. You can get treated pine lining boards but they are primed so that rules them out. Have you checked out something like glosswood? www.glosswood.com.au They are used on a few Porter Davis display homes and look very nice. Come prestained in a variety of stains. Re: Boltic Pine Lining Board 6Sep 16, 2009 8:43 am Hi i have checked out glosswood. However in my opinion for what they are they are way over priced. The cost is $60 per square meter. I wish i knew what species of timber it is. Does anyone hear know. The reason they are used in PD display houses is because they are pretty much supplied to them for minimal cost. for $60 per square meter I would prefer WR ceder. Re: Boltic Pine Lining Board 7Sep 16, 2009 9:23 am Did not realise that they were so expensive. Let me know what supplier you end using Borg. I believe that the wood they use is Paulwonia. Re: Boltic Pine Lining Board 8Sep 16, 2009 6:28 pm The Glosswood site says they are available in Jarrah, Tas Oak, Cedar, Beech and Solid white Re: Boltic Pine Lining Board 11Sep 17, 2009 8:53 pm your right borg I just had another look at the site. It could possibly be tassie oak/ash with different stains on it Re: Boltic Pine Lining Board 12Sep 24, 2009 9:40 am Hey guys. I decided to caugh up the dough and buy cedar. Duke do you know the best product i should be using to coat the cedar. 95% of the cedar will be a ceiling lining with some wraped around my F17 beam which will then be facing north sun. Re: Boltic Pine Lining Board 13Sep 24, 2009 6:41 pm Personally I would look at Sikkens - possibly the Cetol Filter 7. Talk to a paint specialist (i.e. not Bunnings) that stocks it, they will be able to tell you the best one for outdoor panelling. Re: Boltic Pine Lining Board 14Sep 24, 2009 9:45 pm thanks duke. Just one last question. I know for hardwood floors you need to you a rubber type glue.(like the bostick ultraset etc) With the ceder is it ok to use liquid nails. (I have battons at 450 centres) or should i use ultraset again?? Re: Boltic Pine Lining Board 15Sep 24, 2009 10:42 pm I would think a flooring type adhesive as its much more flexible. Liquid Nails do make a flooring adhesive as well. I guess the main thing is whether they are outdoor rated adhesives or not. If not, an outdoor rated construction adhesive may be the best shot Hi, I am sheeting the inside of a 5.7 x 8m shed with gyprock.
