Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 13, 2009 9:34 pm We've just been approved by council and have just seen our Hydraulic Design. We were told that rather than seeking an easement from our neighbours behind us (we have a 1.3m fall to our land from front to back), it would be preferable to shift the stormwater to the front of the property and out to the street via hydraulics. Now, I don't understand how the whole thing works but while looking carefully at the plan, I've discovered what seems to be a 4m x 10cm grated drain running diagonally through the our backyard (over the absorption pit). I'm really worked up about this. If my understanding is correct, after building our lovely new house and doing our landscaping, we're going to end up with this eyesore grate running across our yard. Is this right? Has anyone else had this experience? Can the location be changed or anything done about it? Short of seeking an easement from our neighbours to connect to their stormwater (which, btw, is something we'll be asking about)? My husband is calling the hydraulics engineer tomorrow to discuss this with him and work out our options. I was just hoping to get some first hand experiences from anyone here? Thank you! I'm so annoyed by this. I really don't want that great big drain sitting right in the middle of my backyard! Did you explore the possibility of seeking an easement from your neighbours? When we first looked at building, about three years ago, our tender said stormwater would be dealt with by way of easement, which we'd have to organise ourselves. This time around they went straight to hydraulics... I wonder why?
