Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 12, 2009 5:56 pm I have been to my selections to be told that the house will now have pvc downpipes rather than the coulorbond ones in the contract. This is because we were going to have all the house rainwater and they wanted a closed system to enable the flow from roof to tank.
We are now changing to just 2 toilets and washing machine connected ($850 extra for this) as I was concerned about safety of drinking rainwater if not sterilized (or am I being stupid). Unsure now if I would still need a closed system or if I can achieve this with the coulorband pipe or are PVC better anyway?!?!?!? Help Re: Stormwater - closed system 2Sep 12, 2009 6:06 pm Are you planning on drinking the rainwater from your toilet? From what I understand, the PVC is better as the stormwater can sit in your donwpipes and over time the colorbond can rust. Re: Stormwater - closed system 4Sep 12, 2009 11:29 pm Metter, When there is a requirement to feed multiple downpipes to the RWT, a wet or closed system is often used. As it is difficult to seal colorbond downpipes, it is more practical to use PVC. Chris Re: Stormwater - closed system 5Sep 13, 2009 5:06 pm So are you just having the toilets and the washing machine as rainwater now instead of the taps as well. That is what I am having, in SA you have to have one toilet connected now. I believe PVC is cheaper and I would be asking for credit. There may be answers here but can't find anything. I have a closed in veranda, four windows. North facing, just had sunblock blinds installed.
