What a crazy day. We have our beautiful shiny new keys along with a gift basket full of goodies from the builder. Believe it or not we didn't end up going to the house today. I had to meet up with a friend and we were going to give her the honour of being the first person to see our completed house, but unfortunately daylight ran out and our power isn't on yet so there wasn't much point in going. I have a job interview tomorrow at 8am and afterwards we will be going straight to the house to start painting. OMG I can still hardly believe it, the house is OURS. Its sooo weird to think that this time last year we hadn't even found the block (we first saw it on the 28/10/08) and now we have a completed house on it. Its been 18 weeks from slab down to handover, and only 10 months since we first signed up with Commodore Homes. Super happy with the service we have received to date (I would like to reserve my final judgement until we have been living in the house a while though). Umm.... did I say YAAAAAYY!!!!!!! ? Ok, so its not hard its just that there is soooo much of it! Two solid days of painting and we have sealed all the walls except a small part of the hallway and above the kitchen benches. We were going to go back this morning and finish off, but somehow my BF got food poisoning last night and is pretty darn sick. He was up all night and then stayed in bed until 3.30pm and is now just ****** on the couch groaning. Poor dear I'm a little concerned the coat of sealer doesn't look that good, its very patchy. BF tells me not to worry about it, its just the undercoat, when the two coats of paint go on it should look fine. He's painted once before (I think it was just a couple of rooms) so apparently that makes him an expert I'm going to go into the paint place anyway and ask for their opinion. I'd like to trust him, but I also don't want to take any chances and end up with a ******* paint job! We were hoping our fencing would be up by now, but there is still a pile of crap on the back corner of the property that the council won't move cos its not on the verge (its actually building waste from the house behind us, which is why our builder wouldn't clear it). It right on top of 3 pegs so the fencing can't start until its cleared and the pegs are located. I'm just praying that they are still there otherwise we have to pay to get it re-pegged. The fencing guy was a real know-it-all. We want a gate big enough to allow vehicle access into the backyard, but he was trying to convince that we didn't need it. He said most people never use those kind of gates and have grass growing over them We thanked him kindly for his opinion on what other people do, but we think we've got a better idea of what we need than he does so give us our god damn gate!! McBecks, I'm sorry I didn't take any pictures this time either My Mum is annoyed at me too Kirsada, no it wasn't on. We had no power at PCI, but I couldn't check everything anyway cos I had no globes Hopefully next time I will have some new pics Re: Built in Southern River, WA - Painting woes :-( 91Oct 25, 2009 12:34 am Shell, I am going to paint before I move in and I have a bung back so it's gonna be interesting to see how far I will get I am so not looking forward to doing it habg in there, it will look lovely when you finish and don't forget the pics Building with Homebuyers Centre El Questro! It's sitting in the garage. Huge expense but the theory was if we spent the money we would do the job. Hope you can get as much done as possible before you move in. Doing it after is the pits. our walls looked a bit patchy from the sealer but not too bad. Also the walls tend to look patchy after the first coat of top coat but once the 2nd coat goes on they look fine. we can tell where we got 1 coat of top coat done quite easily compared with the walls that have 2 coats. Its so tempting now just to get the floors done, move in and do it later, but I know you're right, it would be a lot harder to do it after. I guess once you're in its not really a priority either! Just wondering if you have changed your mind on any of the colours now since you have already bought them a while ago? Re: Built in Southern River, WA - Painting woes :-( 95Oct 25, 2009 12:40 pm If you can get your painting completed before you move in do so. We planned to have all ours all done before flooring went in. Unfortunately laying our main flooring had to be pushed forward a week and then they needed an extra week because the floors had to be resealed again as the sealer didn't take evenly. Goodbye to our additional painting week. It was very frustrating knowing the house was ours and we couldn't walk on the floors. no colour changes but we have only 3 that we need to paint. the doors and door frames were done by the builder. they are wattyl "chalk dust". ( i think it's a bit light) We have 2 main colours in the house for walls. and no feature wall colours. Both are wattyl colours. one is flokati ( minor bedrooms. main bathroom and minor hallways etc) which works well for those areas and the other is "igloo" which I absolutely love. (for living areas, kitchen, lounge and our bedroom and ensuite) the office is a different paint brand and the little bit we tested came out quite different to what we expected. i think it's because it has a slightly different base paint.( the paint shop , which is the distributor for the brand suggested using this as they claimed it was the same base. ) since it's an old colour I think the guy in the paint shop stuffed up but i can't prove it. It certainly looks more yellow than I would have expected. I've since found my old copy of the paint sample swatch and if certainly doesn't look like it should. BUT since we have the paint it will be painted the colour we've got. I'm hoping once we finish it that it won't look too bad. I hate how everybody says it isn't hard and no skill is needed We just bought a DIY Paint kit from Easi Paint http://www.easipaint.com.au/index.php at the Spring Home show to help us with the painting. They claim you can use half the amount of paint you would otherwise use and it won't drip!!! I am still a little skeptical, but hey it looked good and Mr K had a go and liked it!
