Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 08, 2009 1:49 pm Hi all, we have just came across with the telephone pre-wire which must be done after the completion of the frame...My friend told us that it costs about $1000 ($500 - digging hole & $500 - cable). Expensive!!! So he ended up digging the hole himself to save the $500.00. Could someone advise us the contractor whom you used for this and also how much did they charge? Thanks!!! Re: Telephone pre-wire??? 3Sep 08, 2009 9:45 pm to get the lead in conduit installed should only be cost of conduit+ pull string, hire of trench digger and at most 2 hours of work. then when you are connected by tesltra they will run the cable from the pit to the house and supply the NTD/ Madison box (for the $299 install fee) as long as you have a cable from where the lead in goes to (near the power box) to the other phones/ what ever you have had installed, or if you have forgotten that they will wire up one point (usually in the kitchen) and then leave the site once they have dial tone at the NTD and frst socket... Great service. They were so quick and friendly. We paid $330 for the trench, 2 phone lines & fit off. If you are in Melbourne their deatails are on their website. Re: Telephone pre-wire??? 5Sep 10, 2009 2:54 pm You're best off booking a time with Telstra for them to lay the cable when the services trench to your house is open. $299 for a new phone connection and they will also run a cable/point to your first front room. You can (ring dial before you dig like a week before so you can get the plans sent to you) dig the 400mm deep by 200mm wide trench put in the "Telstra" approved 20mm white conduit<from Sparkie whole salers in 3m lengths plus you will need at least 1 x 90* sweep aswell (water proofed and nylon pull string inserted with 300mm+ out each above ground level, back fill 100mm of soil then place the telcoms warning tape above it then back fill the rest) for them.
