Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 06, 2009 9:16 pm Hi everyone, I've been reading through the forum for the last few weeks and only wish I had found this site sooner! The interesting and helpful information that I have learned over the last few weeks has been astounding and I'm enjoying looking through everyone's threads to see how their building progress (and hiccups ) are coming along. I'm building with M3tr1con and this will be my first home. I'm doing it solo so any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated Land was purchased in November 2008, settlement occurred early August 2009 and site start was 11th August. Building is now at frame stage. Here are some pics of the progress so far: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ -- this is my land pre-subdivision Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ -- land ready to go Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ -- slab down, frame in progress Building a Santorini 26 with M3tr1con Site Start: 11/08/09 Base: Complete 26/08/09 Frame: Complete 09/0909 Lock Up: Complete 06/10/09 Fixing: Complete 27/10/09 My Thread --> https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=23084 Re: My first home - Santorini 26 by M3tr!con 2Sep 06, 2009 9:20 pm Welcome to the forum. Frame stage - woohoo! We're building the Santorini 26 too - hoping for a frame this week!! I'm surprised how many of us there are building the Santorini at the same time - you, evolvedmonkey and I all have start dates within a couple of days of each other. And Shelz & Emilygirl are not too far off. And Jeffsy's building one too! It's going to be fascinating watching the progress. Although you and Monkey are streaking out ahead of me at the moment - I'm still waiting for that elusive slab to be poured!! Thanks for posting those pics. Look forward to watching your progress! Where abouts are you building & have you made any changes to the original floor plan? Looking forward to seeing your progress & I cant wait to see your colour choices! I've managed to sort out a copy of the floor plan, apologies for the poor quality, I'm not exactly what would be called tech savvy...I've made quite a few changes to the floor plan and am fairly happy with how it's turned out. There are a few things that I didn't think of and now have missed out on changing i.e. a sliding window from the rumpus to the alfresco area. The awning window will open out into the alfresco, which will more than likely get in the way of anyone walking past... Sorry! I can't seem to successfully attach the PDF or paste a link that works...I will keep trying to put it up there though. Thanks for the comments, guys. I know how excited and interested I was to see the other Santorini threads, so hopefully the fellow Santorini builders will find this of some use. It's great that there are a few of us building at the same time - we can compare notes I've chosen a Provincial facade and am yet to see one in real life - the illustrated image on the M3tr!con website just doesn't cut it, so if anyone has a pic of one please post it. I will get around to posting a pic of the colour selections shortly...and the floor plan Building a Santorini 26 with M3tr1con Site Start: 11/08/09 Base: Complete 26/08/09 Frame: Complete 09/0909 Lock Up: Complete 06/10/09 Fixing: Complete 27/10/09 My Thread --> https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=23084 Re: My first home - Santorini 26 by M3tr!con 11Sep 07, 2009 3:34 pm Shelz emilygirl :) We're going with the Santorini 29...changing the sitting room to bedroom #5 We chose the 26 with the same idea in mind, that if we ever needed a 4th bedroom we can eventually turn the sitting room into it. Yeah we went the 26 with the thoughts, at the moment we dont have any whipper snappers so the sitting room is going to be a boys vid games room and bedroom 3 will be the wifes hobbies, sewing crafts, whatever room. Certainly better then my angled block at the end of a court... not the best block for the Santorini... evolvedmonkey Has anyone got rid of the dwalf walls? Yes, I got rid of the dwalf wall (is that what you call them?). I figured that if someone is trying to sleep in the end bedroom, a full wall would better insulate any noise coming from the living area. As for the one to the rumpus room, due to my change of the floor plan that wall doesn't exist any more! Re: My first home - Santorini 26 by M3tr!con 14Sep 07, 2009 7:17 pm evolvedmonkey Has anyone got rid of the dwalf walls? Is anyone getting plantation shutters? Hi evolvedmonkey, yes I've gotten rid of all of the dwarf walls. Although they look great in the display home with the plantation shutters, I didn't think they'd be that practical for a house with relation to noise. I've even opted to include acousti-batts (I think that's what they're called ??) to keep noise levels down. themax Welcome jackbellyjean! That looks like a huge block, great outlook. I look forward to following your build. Good luck! Thanks! I fluked that block, it was way over my budget but definitely worth it I think Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ -- Here's an attachment for my floor plan (ignore the dwarf wall in between the rumpus/lounge room, that's not correct). Is anyone getting plantation shutters? We want to get plantation shutters (dark brown), but they may have to wait until we've settled in and some of the more urgent expenses are out of the way. I love the look of them and how the dwarf walls make the family area feel nice and open, but I am a bit worried about the noise factor. We're home!!! On my plan the aluminium sliding windows are standard throughout the house apart from the facade because we chose the traditional facade which has awning windows! Great choice with the Kingston facade, it looks lovely on their website. That facade wasn't available when I signed up, unfortunately, otherwise I would definitely have gone with it. From my plans it looks as though all of my windows are awning, including the one from the rumpus to alfresco. I hope I'm wrong! Originally I'd assumed that all windows were sliding as that was what was in the display I was taken through and was never given the option of selecting anything different during the selection process. It only clicked that they were awning after I'd signed the final contract which was too late, as I'm so new to all of this that I didn't understand what the awning symbol on the windows meant I did ask for double glazing, so I'm not sure if M3tr!con have then automatically changed them from sliding to awning because of this?
