Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 10, 2007 12:44 am Just had the piping done on our block, hoping to have the slab put in some time next week.
However, upon close inspection I discovered something I didn't like. Not knowing anything about this could mean it is nothing to worry about, yet I told my supervisor to check it out on Tuesday morning. After looking at the pipes sticking out of the ground, I noticed that one of them, located behind where the slab will appear, which looks like being a down pipe or something like that, has a pipe leading to it which is seen on the surface, not being deep enough. Not sure what this means, but I would have thought all pipes, including down pipes connections should be much deeper in the ground. Can anyone suggest if that could be a problem? If it is, I reckon it needs to be fixed asap, as once the slab goes in, it will be pretty much impossible to do anything. Re: Piping depth - any experts out there? 2Jun 10, 2007 8:29 am Not an expert but, It may well only be a storm water pipe. They usually are not very deep below ground near the base of the slab.Don't forget when the slab is poured it will be relatively high off the ground and fill will be returned to that area to bring it up to the level perhaps of one brick course above the slab around the outer edge tapering away from the slab towards the storm water pits.
In Victoria at least you must have a licensed drainer or plumber make your sewerage and storm water connections so I guess you do have protection if its wrong. Re: Piping depth - any experts out there? 3Jun 10, 2007 9:30 pm Where is it located?
As in, if you were to look at your house plan, where would it be located? Do you have an island bench? If may well be the sleeve from an internal wall to the island bench - for water and power (if applicable). Re: Piping depth - any experts out there? 4Jun 11, 2007 1:44 pm I think Grime is on the money here.
It is located just off the base of the slab, behind the house, near the far left hand corner. If the fill will be returned to that area, it may be the answer I was hoping for. I totally agree with everything you have written. Thanks again for your always excellent input and advice. I really enjoy reading your posts cheers Simeon 1 3278 The distance between my DEBs varies from 4.1m at the narrowest to 8.1m at the widest. 5 27310 Hi, only for walking.
