It seems to me that very few trades can even do work that is, just, within the standards, which have a lot of leeway. Some it seems, do not have the intelligence or the dedication to perform well. Most trades where slap dash work is done is hidden by the finish and not found until repairs or renovations are undertaken. Brickwork however is in the open, which is why there are a lot of complaints about it, and rightly so. It is the showpiece of our homes. How embarrassing to tell people of your new home but not invite them around to admire. It is also evident that there is not enough consumer protection, otherwise they would be more, um, workmanlike. Workmanlike - worthy of a good workman, a competent job. I could go on and on but suffice to say that I know what your going through and am aware of the level of workmanship which is common these days, in all trades. In my opinion the focus of workers these days is money for effort ratio, rather than good quality service and customer satisfaction. The big money they get for their poor efforts, is just not enough for them, cheers Hi, I'll be starting on my verandah repair soon - replace ledger, rafters, roofing iron, flashing etc. (fascia board already done).
