Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 03, 2009 3:07 pm Hi, Are many people building the burbank 7 star future range homes? Also they are cheap as compared to similar homes from other builders. They come with water tanks, double glazed windows, more insulation in the walls and ceiling, etc. Looks quite good. Any reviews on burbank and their future range homes will be very much appreciated. Thanks. Re: Burbank - Future range homes 2Sep 03, 2009 3:26 pm I've signed up for a Generation 2200 which is a future range home. It was barely any more expensive than a similar sized Burbank non 7-star home we were also looking at (~2-4k), good value. Re: Burbank - Future range homes 3Sep 03, 2009 5:40 pm Is it like- double glazing = 1 star water tank = 1 star which totals up to 7 stars? Does water tank mean much in Melbourne? Isn't it better to get solar electric generators, costing about $2500 after govt rebate? Re: Burbank - Future range homes 4Sep 03, 2009 8:46 pm I think the only difference between a regular 5 star and a 7 star is the water tank and double glazing. In fact for the double glazing (and the insulation batts too I guess) I believe they put in enough to get it up to 7 star, depending on how your block is situated with the Sun - its not a set amount, varies according to the block/placement. I think a Water Tank means alot in Melbourne. Though my estate, like many, has recycled water connection so that does lessen its value somewhat. Re: Burbank - Future range homes 5Sep 03, 2009 9:11 pm You might be right about the star rating. I can't find a reference to what my insulation is. I agree with ibfraga, not surprising I'm building the same house design. The price is the key even if it is a five star home with extras. I had a good look around and could only find an equal to the generation 2200 in five star houses. There are cheaper homes but they even out when you realise they only give site costs for a 500 square metre block or have a reverse cycle heater/cooler for the entire three bedroom house. In all way I couldn't find better value and then you add in awning double glazed windows and a water tank hooked up the the toilets(very useful). In Melbourne water tanks are more useful than solar generators. We don't get as much sunlight as the central and northern states. While we get more rain we still have stage 3-something water restrictions. Having a water tank connected to the toilets after construction is expensive. The tank is only 2000 litres not much good for anything other than the toilets. Also Victoria gets a lower rebate on solar generators now. These forums have great experts on the subject, check the eco living section, but even they would say get the tank before you get solar. Solar takes longer to pay itself off. Gravity. Its the law. Would I be saving much on my water bills with a water tank? I am not sure of any added benefits besides saving the natural resource. I thought a water tank helps save water. And if burbank future houses have 1 star for the tank and the other one for double glazing windows/doors then why don't every other builder offer that? And I might get it done through ed? (eco classic windows)! Can anyone tell me if there is any way to find out the house rating myself? So that I can put different designs on my block and pick the best one! Re: Burbank - Future range homes 7Sep 03, 2009 10:21 pm Burbank use eco classic for their windows. Adding double glazing and a water tank(w/ toilet connections) to a regular five star home would cost you much more than Burbank's future series homes IMO. I've done alot of searching myself on this subject. I priced DG windows and water tanks w/ connections with many builders and couldn't come anywhere near what the future series offered. It's worth doing the research yourself Kunal, you'll be much happier with the end product if you do. There's a bunch of programs that determine energy ratings, firstrate is one of them. Check the eco living thread there's big long discussions about them. Gravity. Its the law.
