Browse Forums Building A New House Re: what mistake have u done to build your new home? 21Sep 06, 2009 6:00 am Don't forget, you can have 2 way switches to any light(s), this means that 2 separate switches can operate the same light(s), one at one end of a hallway, and another at the other. Each can switch the light on or off. You can have a pull cord switch next to your child's bed and one at the door. The only small cost would be a different cable between the switch and light. Didn't check the DCP (development control plan) that requires a min. 9000 litres rainwater tank (although my land is in recycle water area). This will cost me at least $10K for aboveground watertank and it'll look ugly, sucks.... 2. Got a conveyancer recommended by the land agent. The biggest mistake I made... Waiting for 2010 Land registration.... Re: what mistake have u done to build your new home? 23Sep 15, 2009 9:39 am Rowena shell83 Our garage is at the back of the house, and I realised too late that there is no light switch for the hallway when you enter from the garage - its all the way down the other end of the hallway. Bit of an oversight seeing as it will be our main point of entry in the house. I wonder if our builder will charge a variation fee if we add a two-way switch? The electrician is due to rough in the electrical wiring next week. Otherwise, we might ask our network cabler to run some conduit next to the garage door so we can add a switch after handover. They're the only ones who can tell you. It's totally up to the individual builder. You won't even need conduit for this as the new light switch will be situated above the noggin. Re: what mistake have u done to build your new home? 26Sep 15, 2009 11:18 am aya99 1. I am curious, why did you say your conveyancer was the biggest mistake you ever made. what happen? Is it issue related to the rainwater tank ? Re: what mistake have u done to build your new home? 28Sep 15, 2009 12:20 pm forgot to ask for sarking in the roof... Didn't request the builder to lay the floor BEFORE putting on the skirting boards. They refuse to budge now they've put the skirting boards on (and it will look crap and annoy me).... Re: what mistake have u done to build your new home? 29Sep 16, 2009 1:56 am The conveyancer quoted me her cost price before the land purchased which was quite good, but after we exchange contract for the land and have to sign cost agreement with her, her service fee gone up like $350 more, when I questioned her, she seems really upset and rude, then another thing, she doesn't like to return calls, try to save money by calling me at home, which obviously I won't be at home cause I work so I have to keep calling/chasing her back. And then she didn't check the DCP properly, didn't mention about the rainwater tank, if I knew, I won't buy the land. waranraz aya99 1. I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says. Thanks 2 6174 Unless there were unforeseeable issues with the site, I dont think you should have to pay for contractors errors or poor planning. I'd probably try and be reasonable and… 5 1845 |
