Assuming that when you give the builder a picture of something you like, they have the skill to build it. Re: what mistake have u done to build your new home? 9Sep 03, 2009 6:06 pm Taking the house at handover with a few issues outstanding, including the fact that the facade painting isn't even finished. We had no choice though as we had to honour settlement on our old house. I just want my new house finished off properly Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Re: what mistake have u done to build your new home? 10Sep 03, 2009 6:11 pm Last build mistakes: no window in garage lead light doors so that you could see right into the house all the time kitchen sink butted up to the window, no tiles matt tiles in bathroom that showed water marks..list goes on, but im sure after this build I will have a different list Re: what mistake have u done to build your new home? 11Sep 03, 2009 6:25 pm Our garage is at the back of the house, and I realised too late that there is no light switch for the hallway when you enter from the garage - its all the way down the other end of the hallway. Bit of an oversight seeing as it will be our main point of entry in the house. Also, even though our builder knew we were out of town for a month, they didn't call us to tell us it was time to organise the phone points, they sent us a letter so we didn't get it until 3 weeks later - by that stage the rendering had started and now its too late to get any phone points on internal walls. They had no problem calling us when the payments were due though! Re: what mistake have u done to build your new home? 12Sep 03, 2009 6:39 pm Having my sink drainer on the left hand side, putting the dishwasher in the corner, causing a small, useless cupboard! I don't know what I was thinking!! Trusting that the colour consultant had written down all the correct codes for the items we had chosen. Of course she hadn't and now I am stuck with the wrong cabinet handles cos guess what "You signed off on it.". Small things in the scheme of things but so annoying. I've now added this to my electrical list. Taa Re: what mistake have u done to build your new home? 14Sep 03, 2009 8:38 pm Shell83, we've made a smiliar type of mistake with a hallway for the kids bedroom. only one lightswitch at one end .. I am thinking, but yet to investigate further, that maybe I can get a light sensor switch fitted (one that is it movement activated) ... if it is possible, this may work for you too. Will definately look into that. If all else fails I will have to put a light switch for the hallway in the garage just before you walk in. Re: what mistake have u done to build your new home? 17Sep 05, 2009 11:31 am trust my builder the most horrible mistake we did and which costed us additional $14000 JUST one week before the construction .when all the preliminary work was completed like DA approval and bank formalities they gave us an ultimatum to increase the cost by 14000 $ or they wont build for us at all. it just felt like they were wainting for an opportunity to strike when we have all our hands tied up.its so damn disgusting and a sheer act of blackmailing by one of the renowned builders in NSW Re: what mistake have u done to build your new home? 18Sep 05, 2009 7:28 pm jaelee Shell83, we've made a smiliar type of mistake with a hallway for the kids bedroom. only one lightswitch at one end .. There is a round oyster light available that has an inbuilt sensor in it. We have one of these under our portico, it came from Beacon lighting. pemulwuyhouse trust my builder the most horrible mistake we did and which costed us additional $14000 JUST one week before the construction .when all the preliminary work was completed like DA approval and bank formalities they gave us an ultimatum to increase the cost by 14000 $ or they wont build for us at all. it just felt like they were wainting for an opportunity to strike when we have all our hands tied up.its so damn disgusting and a sheer act of blackmailing by one of the renowned builders in NSW This is awful, so sorry to hear it. Re: what mistake have u done to build your new home? 20Sep 06, 2009 3:40 am Wow, after reading this I'm thankful for the consultants at M3tricon. Although they did stuff a few things up with the colour schedule, I can understand that as they are horribly overworked there. Luckily we were able to visit the showroom again and sort everything out before signing off. The electrical consultant kept suggesting things like a two way light switch both for the kids rooms and for the garage entrance. I was reluctant because of the cost but I'm glad I followed her advice now! I had never occurred to me that we would need light switches there.
