Talk about leaving us in suspense!! ... I have never wanted the weekend to be over so quickly in all my life!!!... The builders tease us, by only doing a little bit on Friday, and knocking off at lunchtime... Didn't manage to stalk it in the weekend as we were in such a hurry but hope to pop up their at the end of the week. At least now you can have a walkthrough your house and envisage where you would put everything. We must have done this so many times with ours. Our SS said you will get the true picture when the walls were up (obviously) but we were just so excited none the less. The garage doors are finally on our house, we are expecting to get a call today or tomorrow on a handover date. We are so close to the end its so very exciting. Lets hope the bank is kind to us too. Re: Our North Lakes home - 14/09 roof frame/trusses up 46Sep 15, 2009 10:12 am Jolene whereas our builders knocked off at lunchtime on Friday Sounds familiar! We learnt early on not to expect too much activity on a Friday. You must be stoked though - our frame (wall & roof) took 2 weeks to go up. Re: Our North Lakes home - 14/09 roof frame/trusses up 47Sep 15, 2009 3:40 pm Looking great. Amazing how much framing they can do in a day. We had the top storey go up in a few hours. The lads finished bracing the roof and walls today, and I was wrapped to see them putting up the sisalation, when we went past on our way to school this arvo. We're meeting with the SS tomorrow arvo to sign off the frame stage, although we have a few things we want to discuss with him... (unless the lads have addressed them today) - our corner niche hasn't been put in, and i'm not sure if the niches in the showers need to be boxed at this stage?? The other thing we need to discuss, is GAS... they've put down a concrete pad for gas bottles - but looking around the neighbours' houses, there is gas in the street, and we would rather just be connected to it, than bother with the hassle of bottles!! We don't think this will be a big hassle. It's a wrap! Been off for awhile, been busy trying to organise the last couple of things for the house before handover...not too long now. Did you manage to sort out the gas bottle situation with your builder? Ours were going to be Gas bottles as well but the CSA just rang up council to make sure their was a gasline and managed to change it on our plans before we signed the contracts. Their was no extra cost to us. Have to go to BBSS soon to purchase uniform for my eldest. He is so excited about going to school...lets hope it lasts through the first week. Re: Our North Lakes home - 24/09 roof on! 52Sep 25, 2009 11:13 pm We have a roof! Yesterday was a fabulous day - although I wasn't around to take any action shots. I think it looks good, and we're pleased with the colours!! Have been busy with the kids these last couple of days, so here's a couple of photos going back to last week! Windows! - the tint isn't as dark as I'd wanted - no one ever actually asked us to what degree we wanted when we asked for it!!! I wanted quite dark tint in the front windows for privacy, however, its probably a good colour for the rest of the windows... next house - i'll be making sure to specify!! I think i've seen the wife everyday since - she's going to think i'm loopy going to look at our house everyday!!! kiarabuild How is your house going? Have you been given your handover date?? I bet its all action stations packing up and getting yourselves organised for the move!! Oooooh how exciting - i'm very jealous!!! We did get the gas thing sorted - but we have to fork out a few more $$ for a gas meter box - we'll pay that directly to the supplier/installer. So now we have a redundant pad down the side of our house... damn it - had we realised it sooner we would've moved the pad somewhere more useful! Oh well.... That's good that your little man excited is excited about starting at BBSS!! I hope he settles in easily! I like the windows on the front have you thought of window furnishings yet? It would look stunning with plantation shutters. We have gone with plantation shutters on the front bdrm of our house and some of the windows downstairs. The rest of the house is getting rollers. We have a PCI and handover date set for next tuesday so we are very excited. Just hope the bank is kind to us and doesn't hold the process up. After that we still have to get the driveway and landscaping so not looking to move till late october. So when does the bricking start on your house? Re: Our North Lakes home - 24/09 roof on! 54Sep 28, 2009 12:15 pm kiarabuild I like the windows on the front have you thought of window furnishings yet? It would look stunning with plantation shutters. I'm not so sure about the windows at the front... its been bugging me the last few days... as soon as the left hand pillar goes up, its going to obscure part of that corner window! arghhhhh!! As for window coverings... we tried to have a look at a few places a few weeks ago - but we didn't really see much we liked. I do like plantation shutters though for those slim windows - have got no idea how we'll do the corner window though - its really just an awkward window! kiarabuild We have a PCI and handover date set for next tuesday so we are very excited. Just hope the bank is kind to us and doesn't hold the process up. After that we still have to get the driveway and landscaping so not looking to move till late october. So when does the bricking start on your house? ohhh yay for next Tuesday!! I hope for your sake there is no bank hold-ups for you either!! Does your bank require a valuation to be done prior to that last payment?? Ours does... and it also blimmin requires the fences and front landscaping to be done - which we didn't have built into the contract. Bit of a nuisance if you ask me! We did however go to the North Lakes markets yesterday and picked up a nice big cycad and some dracaenas, which we will store until we can plant them! Just hope our builder will allow us to do our landscaping prior to handover... I'm secretly looking forward to doing the landscaping - even though Al and I aren't green-fingered and definately not experienced in gardening in a tropical climate! kiarabuild So when does the bricking start on your house? As for the size of our house - its pretty deceptive... I don't think its that big at all - infact, we'll have to sell our lounge suite because it won't fit in the family room, and the suite we have for the media room will only just fit at a squeeze!! I'm having major "big house" envy at the moment... After numerous phone calls to the sydney office and we thought we had a date set for 29th only to find out last thursday that they were sending the guy in at 11.30am on this day. So we had to rush to N.Lakes last week but thank god our house was completed and our SS had organised everything. The only thing we took out of our contract was the carpets that we will do ourselves so the valuer seemed ok with it. We didn't have the driveway and landscaping in our contract and we also went to Beacon Lighting and bought all our lights and fans and I know what you mean about the costs. After all the stress I found out this morning that everything should be fine with the bank for handover date so can't wait to get the keys. We are hoping to get to the N.Lakes market to source out plants, I did see some very nice ones last time we visited and they were not very expensive. I think the landscaping bit will be fun but hard work...still have to find a wheelbarrow, another thing to add to the list.lol Re: Our North Lakes home - 24/09 roof on! 56Sep 28, 2009 5:52 pm We've just gotten back from visiting the house - we haven't been for 2 days... and we were greeted with plumbing!! According to our new neighbour across the road, the plumber was there yesterday!! We are now starting to strike a few issues... 1. The tap for the bath is in the wrong position (we have a double ended bath with the drain hole in the middle) - one would have thought to also put the tap in the middle, to be able to lay at either end of the bath (there are cushion things at either end). 2. The fridge hasn't been plumbed! 3. The door to the rear hallway hasn't been framed. 4. The niche in the ensuite shower isn't as we requested. 5. The power box is the wrong colour, unless they paint them?? Al rang the SS today to address 3 & 4, he tells us the door will go in later (we both think he doesn't understand which door we're talking about) - of course the doors will go in later... but the silly thing doesn't even have a frame! And he'll try and find a solution to our niche problem. Al will ring the plumber directly tomorrow to discuss the other two issues, discovered today. How can they forget to put a frame in for a door? Its lucky you live near your new house and able to check it regularly. Is your SS easy to deal with? We had the certifier go through last thursday and need two things to be fixed before sighning COO. Our SS got it fixed on Friday so everything seems to be on track for handover next tue. I saw the house up the road that is similar to your being bricked today so yours won't be too far away. Re: Our North Lakes home - 24/09 roof on! 58Oct 01, 2009 7:08 am Al spoke to the SS again about the missing door frame, and he seemed to be non-concerned - it can be done later. arghh not what we wanted to hear... will keep chasing it up until it is done! However, good point of yesterdays' phone call - the brickie is supposed to be onsite on Friday!! We went to the house 4x yesterday, twice to liase with the electrician - and I still blimmin forgot to get tell him to wire the cabinetry lights! We have now established that we have... an South African family directly beside us, an Australian family and a Scottish family directly across the road, and another Australian family 4 houses down (I also suspect the family 2 houses down are Australian - but so far, I've only spoken to the children). I love North Lakes for its diversity!! We went on to live in this home for 3 wonderful years, it wasn't perfect and we started to outgrow it as the kids got older and set our eyes on buying a ex display home.
