Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 07, 2007 3:12 pm Hi,
New to the forum and this is my first post. I am in the process of choosing a builder in Perth, WA. I am in discussions with Highbury Homes, Shelford, Don Russell, House Masters and Greater Concept Building and Design (they draw the plans and build with a bulder called Premier Homes). Has anyone had any experiences with these guys or know or have any redommendations? I have looked at Best Builder but the WA section has very limited. I am staying away from the mass project builders and trying to choose a smallerbuilder with more personalised service and not 1 supervisor to 100 houses type company. Cheers Justin Re: Opinions or Experiences on WA Builders 2Jun 07, 2007 6:22 pm House 2 doors down was built by Premier Homes.
The lady there seemed happy with the house. (they only just moved in) For me watching it go up there was nothing *** that I noticed in terms of construction. new 3Jun 09, 2007 12:04 pm Hi Justin
Welcome to the forum. BestBuilder is still quite new so the reviews are still building up. Hopefully over time, and with the support of additional reviews, it will be able to provide more assistance. Thank you for visiting the site. Regards Re: Opinions or Experiences on WA Builders 4Sep 30, 2007 2:15 pm Justin,
I have recently built with Highbury Homes and found them to be completely unsatisfactory for a number of reasons. The most problematic aspect of Highbury Homes is they consistently failed to honour the terms of the contract, and are now overdue in time. They are essentially a middle or the road medium size builder, that appears to have taken on too many new projects. Issues for example included: they literally had to do almost everything twice: retaining wall trench put in wrong place (and tried to charge me for it), roof alignment incorrect, screwed up site works, a sewer pipe now runs in main bedroom roof space, brickwork on my workshop was first 28 c then 25 c then 28 c, installed plastic pipe instead of copper, kitchen was installed as antique white vinyl using Polytech, was supposed to be new antique white using Laminex - 8 week delay while they redid it, laundry room shower was to be frameless, put in semi-frameless, now replacing with frameless, Installed the wrong range hood, ordered the wrong oven; initially installed the wrong gutters; they allowed concrete to spill on to the lower floor face brick; all the windows are loose in the walls - frame heads were never fixed (presently being fixed); most of the Jason windows have leaked over winter due to rain (trying to fix this as well); recommended Classical Stone for granite benchtop - they cut it wrong, redid it three times. The Managing Director of Highbury Homes told me to get in my car an f**k off when I visited their offices to complain about contract breaches and the mendacity of the site supervisor (also a company director). I can only reiterate that I would not use Highbury Homes. In all, prehaps the worst two years of my life compliments of Highbury Homes Best regards Neil Re: Opinions or Experiences on WA Builders 5Dec 18, 2007 1:40 pm Thanks for the replys. Glad I did not choose Highbury homes as I was seriously considering them but found them a little expensive for what we got. I chave chosen Premier Homes, very small builder from Rockingham build only south of river. Good personal service so far and very approachable and easy to negotiate with on prices. Having said that we havent even got a slab down yet, hopefully this week but so far so good. Re: Opinions or Experiences on WA Builders 6Nov 11, 2011 6:10 pm hello, I know it has been a while but I was just wondering how your build went with Premiere Homes? We have been stuffed around by a big builder and have been to see Premiere Homes, looking for better service. If we choose to build with them we will loose our deposit with the big builder so I want to know if it is worth it, Thanks You have mandatory building inspections and privately engaged building inspections.
