Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 21Aug 28, 2009 11:08 pm We have met almost all the people in our street now and they all seem great. They were all very happy that we were knocking down the horrible dump that was on the block as it improves the look of the whole street considerably! It is an established area with only 9 houses in the street and most of them have been there for years. We met the people directly across the road not long after we bought the block and they gave us the run down on the other neighbours. We met several of the others when we put in new fences back in January and 1 of the the neighbours even helped us with installing the fence not just for the bit we shared with him but for the other parts. It is a street people don't want to move away from with the guy who lives on 1 side of us having rented 3 different houses in the street and the guy on the other side of the road having previously lived in the old dump we knocked down before moving out when it was sold to us but coming back when the house across became available to rent. Hahaha. There's always that one neighbour who feels they're obliged to tell the newcomers about the other neighbours! Classic stuff. Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 23Aug 28, 2009 11:23 pm We've known our new neighbours for years! We lived in one street, moved two streets away and have now built in the street in the middle! We've lived in the same area for 15 years, so most of the kids around here went to at least primary school with each other. They also know enough to tell me if youngest DS is up to mischief! Judie Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 24Aug 28, 2009 11:29 pm I knocked on the door of three people in our new street to introduce myself and to chat about fences and building companies. I wanted to see how their build went as they had built with companies we were looking at going with. They seemed great. My new neighbour who is also building directly next door telephoned me after I sent her a letter about building the fence. I've waved to the neighbour on the other side. They are probably very excited that the 2 vacant blocks remaining in the whole street are starting to be built on as most of the people in the street have lived there for nearly 2 years! Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 25Aug 31, 2009 8:41 pm mrs. swa We haven't physically met, but have chatted on homeone - such a great forum!!!!! The same goes for me ! They're nice people! Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 26Sep 01, 2009 4:20 am We haven't bought our block yet... but we've talked to just one set of neighbours when we went to see the block for the first time. We liked the look of the block so we thought we'd knock on their door to see how friendly they were... and if they could tell us what the area was like. We introduced ourselves and told them we were prospective neighbours. They seemed happy and were really nice considering we were strangers banging on their door. They told us that "our" block had been on the market for 4 years (it's in a noise zone so costs more to build on... obviously a turn off for most people). Bruce and I are both leaving really good neighbours behind... so we are praying that we get nice new neighbours at our new home. We'll have to be sure to invite them to our housewarming (which will also be our wedding) (great thread too!!!) And we haven't even started building yet. Met most people through this homeone site, others have googled stuff and came accross our building blog and recognised our block, so have introduced themselves. Our direct next door neighbour we haven't met yet, but the one two houses down we have and he seems really nice. Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 28Sep 01, 2009 12:07 pm It was because of one of our *soon to be* neighbours, that we found our block of land in the first place. We decided to rent in the area where we were thinking of building (at the end of last year). Our 5 year old daughter befriended a little girl on her first day, at her new school (at the beginning of the year), so we invited her to play after school, the following week. When her mum came to pick her up she told me they were building and told us to go check it out... and 4 doors down was a vacant block for sale, which was just perfect!!! End and beginning of story... that block will have a slab go down this Friday!!!!!!! Have also met the neighbours on one side, renters, but they seem nice, with young children. The other side is still vacant, and there are two houses being built on across the road, but I haven't seen the owners.
