Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 28, 2009 12:17 am Hi all...just had a random thought...i think I must be bored, or getting tired lol. Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? My partner has met a few of ours (on his daily drive-bys on the way home from work) and they all seem to be nice, normal people...so far!lol He's been exchanging "all the building stories" with them! Thank god they're much better than our neighbours where we are at the moment...i think we're surrounded by psychos here!!lol Oh well I guess it's something to look forward to...when we finally get outta here! Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 2Aug 28, 2009 8:08 am most of the houses directly around us are rentals so we havent met them yet, but the two across the street both have pot plants and have been watering the grass etc so at least it appears we will have decent rental neighbours. Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 3Aug 28, 2009 8:12 am It was 6 months after buying our old house ( knockdown job) before we pulled it down. We however, drove over regularly to keep it tidy & grass cut. Even though we didn't live there for 18 months from the time we'd bought it, our neighbours always came over for a talk or waved to us. We sooooo love living here - it's just so friendly!!! Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 4Aug 28, 2009 9:09 am We've only met one set of neighbours so far... but I just send out a notice of protected works to all of them because of the retaining walls we're (hoping to) build, so perhaps I'll hear from more of them soon! The ones we have met are lovely and called us to say they have no issues with our walls, which is great. Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 6Aug 28, 2009 10:08 am We have the greatest neighbours of all (US) we demolished the house we have lived in since 1988 and moved next door while we build so we have no problems with ourselves, we really do have great neighbours on the other sides too, they are all very happy for us building our "dream" home. Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 7Aug 28, 2009 11:09 am we sure have.... my husband camped at the land office at Esperance for the week leading up to land being released, along with 8 of our future neighbours. They are a hoot. I can't wait to build and move in and continue the good times that we had while waiting for our blocks. We have already started to talk about our christmas party this year (even though our land does not title until feb).. We will hopefully make an anual thing of it too... this year though, we will probably have to find a location other than the driveways at the end of our street! ~L~ Building the NBG Hotham 26 (altered by us) through CitiWest Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 9Aug 28, 2009 11:29 am Nope, but I know their name and address for the purpose of fencing 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Our neighbours to our side it was not our first meeting. My sister went to school with one of them and my cousins are friends with her partner. Was quite amusing but they are great... The ones behind seem ok bit weird but ok have only met them twice! the other neighbour (the road) seems pretty quiet! 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! My wife met the neighbours to the other side and she said they were very nice. We were having a party in our knock down job the weekend after she met the neighbours and she explained that we couldn't be bothered turning the power on and we were just going to have take away for lunch. The next morning when we arrived there was an extension lead to our front door with a note attached. Our lovely future neighbours had been so thoughtful. Then on the day of the party my wife met some neighbours across the street. They descibed an anual street party held at the park down the rode and they said that they will have to make sure we get an invite. We are now really, really looking forward to living there. LOL i'm hoping my neighbour will leave me alone, any chance of that? how do you do it without seeming snobbish or rude? i also can't stand it when they start lawnmowing at 7:00AM on a saturday morning..... or sunday even.... or when they have kids running around and shouting and yelling and crying, sometimes i thought an abuse was going on...... or when i first moved in to my rental, first night in the house, my neighbour was having a drunken shouting party until morning, they were laying on the streets literally drunk off their wits.. and the party continues until 3-4am. I didn't sleep at all that night, oh they were louddddd alright. i think i'm scared to meet my neighbours... Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 15Aug 28, 2009 1:59 pm We only have one set of "neighbours" even though a public nature reserve seperates us and yes we met them just before we bought the block and I have actually become quiet good friends with them, we have daughters the same age, which is great. We know a young couple building up the end of the court and we also know the young guy that is building next to my friend ^^! It's a lovely estate! Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 17Aug 28, 2009 7:56 pm Yes we have a lovely young family on one side who are living there for a few years then going back overseas. Our other neighbours have contacte dus by post and we have chatted on the phone. Young also. We are 40s so not too old!!! Very happy with whom we have met in our street already!!! http://www.harribeka.blogspot.com.au Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 18Aug 28, 2009 10:54 pm I have met two sets so far. Both are really nice and have told me about how nice the other people in our street are. Everyone is pretty much a young couple with a baby or two. As I am young and the other half and I would like to start a family in a few years this is perfect. I have been told that the entire street goes for morning and evening walks so I will meet everyone out and about. I was nervous about meeting everyone as I don't want mean scary people living near me. Sadly the house immediately next to me is a rental. The current residents are noisy and like to yell at the kids a lot but I guess if I had three energetic kids I might be tempted to yell down the house instead of chasing them! It is good that it is happy noise and not abusive noise - I get a bit upset if I can hear that. Their lease is up before we move in so I'm not sure if we will have new people at that stage. *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 Re: Has anyone met their future neighbours yet? 19Aug 28, 2009 10:59 pm We met one of our neighbours about three weeks ago - Nathan. Then last weekend while laying our back lawn we had a couple of onlookers looking out their windows at us. (one each side - both women) We waved to them to acknowledge that we saw them looking but not one of them came out to say hello. I think we will be in for some fun times during the build.
