Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 27, 2009 1:57 am Im thinking of requesting another SS from our builder, as I have discovered that our SS certificate expired last year. When we asked him for his license details, he became very confrontational, which explains why. We were not advised of this (by our builder) at all & I'm not sure if the builder should have been aware of this even before appointing him. Also noticed when looking at the fill they have done, it looks as if they are filling our whole block..which doesn't look right according to our plans! SS said they had initially underestimated the amount of fill needed and would need a total of 425 tonnes of fill...but according to a builder friend of mine, that should have been determined by the surveyor beforehand?!! We have since disputed the amount of fill he is saying is needed, bcos it does seem VERY excessive for our block size. Re: Has anyone requested builder for another site supervisor? 2Aug 27, 2009 2:34 am HI gsm, I'm about to start my build soon (all being well)...you may have already read some other H1 accounts of changing SSs during their build (some even have changed 3-4 times). I've already said to my hubby that if our own SS isn't up to scratch, I'd ask for a new SS (of course, am hoping this won't happen). Since your SS's licence expired last year, I think you're well within your rights as the paying customer of the builder to request for a change in SS. At this point, you're already questioning the amount of fill and your builder friend has enough experience to tell you something factual and true. Also, my understanding is that when something needs to be done outside of the contract, this is normally consulted or made known to you before the work is actually done. There's a reason for engineering computations for the site works to be done. If I were in your shoes, I'd ask to speak to the construction manager at your builders for clarification and your builder also has a professional duty to make sure that all of their SSs are validly licensed! Hope all works out well with you...
