Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 26, 2009 8:49 pm Hey guys
I have been following this forum for quite some time, and we were one of the first few to build the cremorne42 and post it on the blogs. Its been 14 months, and the house still puts a smile on our faces. Its such a great layout, and all our family n friends dont want to leave, when they visit... We had our 12 month maintenance last month, all went well, only had minor issues. For us, we had a great experience with PorterDavis, from sales, admin, site supervisor, and maintenance. From my experience what determines a great build, is the site supervisor and tradies. If both are co-operative, friendly and care about there quality, you're half way there in receiving a great build. Research, research , research is the key, and persistence, along with those daily visits, taking pics & measurements etc. We were'nt aware of the forum or blogs until half way thru our build. Since then I have provided lots of advice to other cremorne future owners, some of whom have completed there homes and moved in. Each cremorne is unique in there own ways, and its great to see many satisfied owners. So for those who are contemplating on building a PD cremorne or other PD home dont hesitate to contact me, as I have attained lots of knowledge and tips on how PD works, and what to look out for during your build process. Here's a few pics of our home, PS: Artificial grass will be layed at the front, once the weather calms down.... The to do list never ends, either in decorating or garden work. Some forum members have asked about our plantation shutters. I organised our shutters from "port phillip shutters" www.portphillip.com.au You save over 50% on the normal cost, as you do most of the work, like measurements, painting or staining, and assembling. The shutter kits are made from aussie timber, cut and pre drilled to your measurements. Instructions provided, and how to videos on the website. They are the highest quality available when compared to other suppliers, most come from china. All the hard work pays off once you enjoy your newly painted, installed shutters. Andy Re: Our PorterDavis Cremorne 42: 14 months later 7Oct 26, 2009 7:44 pm Hi all I have had numerous responses in regards to our vinyl karndean flooring. It is becoming more popular and is now used in many shopping centers stores, due to its durability & minimal mainenance. Its quiet, much warmer than tiles, and its realistic timber appearance. There is a karndean showroom, in knox, victoria. Visit the www.karndean.com.au site for more details. Our vinyl planks are from the "Van Gofh" range. Colour: Lancewood. Any further inquires, you can email me. Thanks Andy Re: Our PorterDavis Cremorne 42: 14 months later 8Oct 26, 2009 8:32 pm hi andy I'm totally with you. We are having vinyl throughout all living areas in our home (cept study and Home Theatre). Ours is a dark timber, not unlike chocolate mahogany, and it is stunning. Also, as you probably know, about half the cost of carpet. So glad to hear you get nothing but good comments about it. We have timber look planks in our current kitchen (which is a vinyl off the roll) and we get nothing but compliments here too. No one ever guesses it's vinyl and its warm under foot, comfortable, easy to kneel on, glasses don't break when dropped on it and a dream to keep clean. (also - no maintenance like normal timber!) sorry to hijack your thread! Just wanted you to know that anyone who knocks, doesn't know what they are on about! Great for a young family... A thankful person is a happy person. Congrats, you must be very proud. Andy Thanks Andy! Re: Our PorterDavis Cremorne 42: 14 months later 11Oct 27, 2009 12:42 am Andy, just curious - the side gates - are they Merbau ? If so, how much do they cost (including the bracing/locks, etc) ? We want one which will be about 1.4m across for the blind side.... We're in Blackburn. Re: Our PorterDavis Cremorne 42: 14 months later 12Oct 27, 2009 11:17 am Me again I am wondering about the merbau gates too as we are after some and fencing for the sides of the house. Can you share the name of the fencing company that did them? Cheers. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Re: Our PorterDavis Cremorne 42: 14 months later 16Oct 27, 2009 10:02 pm Hey guys (miss petepie, jspitz, Rowena, Hels & pauljulian) Thanks for your lovely comments, much appreciated. I have had so many comments regarding my side merbau gates. I actually constructed them myself, inc the steel frame. I wanted gates that were more durable and stronger than what you buy from hardware stores. I was fortunate that my dad, had some spare steel at home. I did purchase the 90mm merbau, used stainless steel hex bolts & lock nuts. The steel frame has been supported on solid stainless steel hinges, and many bolts secure it to the frame, along with lots of solid weld. The gates took me about 1 month to construct. The merbau has 4 coats of feast n watson natural oil. You can purchase a steel tube gate frame from bunnings at various dimensions, but check out the welds. I havent chosen the synthetic grass, am looking at tiger turf, approx $50 per sqm. Magic turf, grass1 are other alternatives, visit there websites for more details. Its nice to see other forum members are considering karndean vinyl flooring, its a great alternative to tiles. I can assure you, the vinyl is so nice to walk on, alot warmer than tiles. I wish I knew about this site before we built, WE had to research the hard way, spending hours inspecting display homes. Thanks Andy You can visit my home blog: http://wallace-cremorne41.blogspot.com Re: Our PorterDavis Cremorne 42: 14 months later 17Dec 01, 2009 7:12 am Hey guys Im receiving many messages asking about our lounge suite. Thanks for all your lovely comments. The couches were custom built using australian hardwood, australian fabric and dunlop foam. They were purchased from LUST firniture. I highely recommend the wide cushions, so comfortable and great for taller people. Our ottoman 1.2m x 1.2m opens up so we can utilise the space for storage, also acts as a great coffee table or when kids are playing the playstation. I have a photo of Andy and a handful of kids on that ottoman. It's a great size Have to say Andy's couches are great, I loved them so much I went to find something similar for our place. Agree the 900mm wide cushions are very comfy. We've had to re-arrange our family room to accommodate the Christmas Tree, it's looking alot like your did this time last year (minus the fireplace) Happy at Home This certainly doesn't look good.
