Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 24, 2009 9:52 pm Hi My boyfriend and I really like this brick colour we saw on a house. We took this photo to builder and they said it was mocha by Boral bricks. We went to have a look at another house that used the same brick and it was so different, very dark. Did anyone choose Mocha Brick and have a picture to show me. Thankyou for your help! Re: Anyone with Mocha Bricks? 2Aug 24, 2009 10:06 pm Hi Robenna We chose Boral Mocha and so far have had some footings only built. We found exactly the same as you - each house looked different, depending on the roof colour etc. We had originally chosen Austral Hawthorn but our had to change due to recent poor quality of this brick so we only had 2 days to choose another. Here is a pic of our footing wall - uncleaned and taken in fading light: We are really happy with it! JL Re: Anyone with Mocha Bricks? 3Aug 24, 2009 10:12 pm Hey Robenna! We also loved/still love the look of Mocha, but ended up going with Kurrajong (also by Boral). They are ridiculously similar, but we liked that Kurrajong has some raking through it to make it look that bit more rustic. The colour of the mortar totally changes the look of the brick. We're going grey mortar and it really brings out the grey in the brick, making it look less brown. If you like Mocha, check out Kurrajong too. With our builder it was in one category cheaper I think this pic is going to be too small but I'll see... But its so hard because they only give you about 4 bricks to look at you just dont know how its going to look once its all over the house. I think we may go to boral and get a better look.
Felistopher, I noticed your in Cornell's Hill. We are in Eminence Re: Anyone with Mocha Bricks? 5Aug 24, 2009 10:36 pm Hi again Here is another pic of Mocha - not from our house though. JL Re: Anyone with Mocha Bricks? 7Aug 24, 2009 11:55 pm We are also going to be using Boral Mocha... I know that another brick company also has a brick called Mocha (PGH?).. Possibly they meant it was this brick rather than the Boral version. Here is a picture of a house with Boral Mocha bricks... We got the address from Boral Also found about 3 other houses with the same brick... They did look slightly different, but all looked good!! Hopefully the bricks I get look like these ones! Pics are on: http://staxhouse.blogspot.com/ Most of the pics are of the bricks uncleaned - however there is one that render done with cleaned bricks. We used off white Morter, which makes a huge difference to the look of the brick. http://staxhouse.blogspot.com/ Re: Anyone with Mocha Bricks? 9Aug 25, 2009 1:59 pm ...and my picture of Mocha looks completely different again! Looking at houses on a list given to us by Boral, none looked the same. Our neighbors have built with the same builder and also mocha brick, but sitting side by side you wouldn't think they were the same brick. Re: Anyone with Mocha Bricks? 13Aug 29, 2009 10:40 am It's a tough choice isn't it Robenna! I think, as others have said, the only way to decide is to look at as many houses you can. When the any brick is coupled with timber windows we found they looked totally different to what it looked like against aluminium. Same with render. Whatever you choose I'm sure it will look awesome because you have chosen to build in such a nice neighbourhood Re: Anyone with Mocha Bricks? 14Aug 29, 2009 11:18 am I loooooove my mocha brick, I will try to hunt down some photos, its true it can look really dark or light, on our house, its pretty light and we love it, we have a light mortar too, which I think makes a huge difference. There are some really huge variations if all of the bricks in this thread are all mocha! All our house pics are on the laptop, so I'll have to upload some later. If it helps, its a wonderful rich brick with light and dark browns throughout, then some of that blue stuff in a few, not quite the technical explanation of the brick but its how mine look. ICK So glad the building is over, never again. Loooove our house, but still not quite sure it was worth all of the stress they put us through! Re: Anyone with Mocha Bricks? 15Aug 29, 2009 11:24 am Oh, and Stormy, that looks nothing like our brick Ours doesn't have any impressions in it like that sample wall. Looks more like Kurrajong, maybe Boral changed it since then *shrugs* ICK So glad the building is over, never again.
