Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 1081Apr 16, 2010 1:34 pm oh wow - I really didn't believe horizontal could possibly be standard ... Luckily on our plans they are drawn vertical (but MrsRose we too were wanting the same ones as you - with the extra horizontal bar at the top, design A1-1). I actually have the brochure here and those 'come-climb-me-kids' standard are called A4-1. The ones you have MrsRose are A0-1. We are going to try to specify in our tender for the basic A0-1 for no price rise (wish me luck! I think I am exhausting my sales rep, and myself! but hopefully saving some money and nasty surprises...) TIP: the balustrade lady did also say to speak to our sales rep and they might be able to 'throw in' a balustrade upgrade such as glass. We don't want glass (impedes airflow), but I am going to insist on getting A1-1 as per our plans... Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 1085Apr 16, 2010 3:14 pm KG85 congrats emoh question for people who have done a knock down rebuild. i know that they previous owner of our land did a knock down before they sold. when they do this do they get rid of the slap underneath the house aswell. im just hoping that it will be clear sailing and we wont have to start getting into teh rock provision for the excavation. drove passed today and fences were up suprisingly, even after i spoke to masterton yesterday and they said it would be a while Hi KG, We did a KDR and they removed everything from under the house and garage (this included the slab, piers/joists, pipes etc) Cheers Never argue with an idiot they drag you down to their level & then beat you with experience - Dilbert View Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=19733 Contract signed 14Sept Slab 30Sept Bricks laid 1Dec Lock up 26Feb Keys 10Jun Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 1086Apr 16, 2010 3:43 pm yeah they sure put abit of pressure on you, saying sign now, and we'll list the defects and get them fix, otherwise it is going to take 2-3 weeks longer. Then they can gloss over and do a half baked job on it or don't turn up at all. frodmann I regret signing the PCI report on the spot. They don't seem to want us to part with it Might call the company direct! Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 1088Apr 17, 2010 8:26 am I think that is a good thing. Because we are a Custom Design, the pricing seems to be inflated on everything, not just the Base Price. Our Consultant is trying to keep us positive but he is just so busy that he hasn't had a chance to communicate with Masterton properly on our amendments / questions. I so very VERY much want to build with Masterton - we have been researching for 2 years, feel like we live at Warwick Farm, and I have been full steam ahead preparing to press the button... but the hubby is getting cold feet We were trying to start build in July / August, but I think it will all take more time ... I love watching all your houses coming along though - very exciting! I love watching all your houses coming along though - very exciting! Is there a reason you are doing such a customised design? Is it the nature of your block or you just want something different? Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 1093Apr 18, 2010 9:54 am BADH - I would have loved to have just built the Villina/Fernleigh 33C - gorgeous houses - but we have an odd triangular shaped block (and when we bought we were just thinking of renovating). Positive is we have 40m north facing views over the National Park so we commissioned a private architect to draw up concept designs ('inspired' by the Villina/Fernleigh 33C I guess you would say). Masterton's designers then prepared more detailed plans. We were lucky in that Masterton accepted our plans (they don't do quirky Customs), but estimating our tender is proving a brain-buster, so they are inflating all the costs (over 100% in many cases, eg. Moroka over $10K should be around $6,200, alfresco slab $7K when should be around $2,600 etc) ... We haven't given up, we are just going to relax about the timeline and keep talking with them (plus hubby wants to get another quote at least) ... If I figure out how, I will try to post our plans (or I can email you if you are interested, please pm me your email address). FYI ALL - I have finally changed my username from JimToi to SunshineT (as it was irking me being mistaken for a bloke called 'Jim'!). Customising/modification of standard building design is where the builders getting a lot of rip off, whether you downgrade or upgrade you'll get charge ridiculously. That's why I told my CSC we're just a standard couple who loves building a new house standard inclusions we're just fine for us and somehow it did not end up that way because there are tons of improvements you can do to their designs especially if you are willing to spend some $$$. Lucky you have got the time to shop around. Goodluck finding the right builder! Cheers! Masterton is still our preferred builder, but we would be mad not to get at least one price comparison (with the END result we want - not just the Base Price standard which is unbeatable really... as you say, it is the upgrades where $ is made and where their prices start to get closer or if not higher than market...).
